Thought you deserved a reply at least, and welcome to Porsche ownership. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I know very little about Tiptronic, having always preferred and owned manuals. A 200 rpm drop is too small for most gear ratios, I would guess. Does the engine note change as well when it happens (suggesting a mechanical issue), or is it just that the rev counter needle drops back (electrical)?
I'm sure there's someone in the Club who could help you. The 964 forum doesn't seem quite as vibrant as some of the others, but hopefully someone will be able to help before too long!
Cheers

Martin is right, we will try and help. I have 4 964's , 1 is a tip, but haven't had your issue so again can't really help. However and I think Martin bought his from him aswell, I know a guy who eats sleeps and drinks these cars. Roly Baldwin at Eporsch 01932 569844. He is a good guy and if you tell him I said to call him he will give you half an hour chapter and verse on your problem. Don't worry he won't try and sell you another one!
Let me know how you get on.
Johannes
