964 Turbo - collision from behind

Hi everyone.

On my way to Goodwood yesterday, a Mini driver hit me from behind. Was a decent impact and rear bodywork ended all up against the engine.
Other driver's insurance has been pretty responsive and called me first thing this morning. Gave me the "approved garage network" speech. I am concerned the frame might be off now as driver door does not close well.

Any recommendations navigating the repair through the insurance? They are just going to want to get it done quickly and as cheaply as possible...

Thanks.

Hi Robert,

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate rear-end collision. I would ignore the approach from the third party’s insurer and deal directly with your own insurer, who I’m sure you’re obliged to inform about any accident. Although most likely they will have their own approved repairer, you’re perfectly entitled to use one of your own choosing.

There used to be a network of Porsche approved repairers, but there are now only recommended repairers dotted around the UK which you could use, or alternatively you could ask Club members in your region for some recommendations in person or via the forum. Maybe it would be worth contacting the Regional Organiser for advice?

Good luck!

Jeff

There's a lot of potentially expensive damage behind that impact point, and Jeff's quite right - get your insurer's to handle it for you, and in an ideal world, find a bodyshop that has dealt with aircooled 911s before. FWIW, I know of one 911 turbo that had to have the engine rebuilt on new crankcases because of a heavy rear end shunt. Not wishing to spread alarm and despondency, but if you believe the fit of the door has been distorted, that's serious.
Good luck indeed....but you pay your insurer's to keep luck out of it!

That's tough Robert, really unfortunate.

I recently had a tour of the Dick Lovett Swindon bodyshop and it is a thoroughly professional set up. They are able to handle classics as well as moderns. I have had just the one experience when our Cayenne was hit in the rear at a local car park a few years ago, fortunately caught on CCTV. The repair for a new rear section, tailgate was done perfectly. All warrantied as well. Recommended.

Some years ago I used Elite Motors in Northampton who did a very good job replacing the front PU on my 987.2 Cayman after an altercation with a kamikaze cat!

Note that some Porsche Centres [Cambridge and Silverstone?] have bodyshop facilities.

Thank you again everyone for the recommendations. I went with Dick Lovett in Swindon.
Just visited their garage. Fantastic team. Very nice. Spent time explaining everything in detail. Had quite a few Porsches around and some Ferraris, BMWs, etc.
Have done quite a few restoration and repairs on older models. Got a good feeling about it.
Let's see. Will report back if any issues.

Hi there, I have very positive experience of Chartwell, who repaired my Macan after a side impact, are approved by Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, lamborgini, Maserati, Rolls Royce, & Bentley, probably some others as well. I have very negative experience of JCT 600 Bradford. Hope you get your pride & joy returned to the previous condition.
