my 964 turbo has a funny heating sysytem there seems to be a heater fan/blower at the front passenger side near bulk head this blowere sometimes switches off and then switches on when it wants to or should i say it speeds up and slows down, the blower did once make a funny sound screaching sound
any ideas whats causing the variations in speed and also the funny sound

hi

Sounds like the bearing has gone in the front mounted blower. I think that this is not repairable and you need a new blower unit. It is a comon fault and some people spray wd40 on the end of the shaft to eliminate squeeling although this is a temporary repair. To remove the fan you need to access it from under the front compartment it is under the servos for the heater. I think a new blower is about 150 pounds. You can change it yourself although it is a bit akward.

Hi

Another thing could be:-

Foward blower fans left+right operate intermittently(speed keeps changing, fans apper to swithch on and off automatically when temp above 21.

Most comon fault is open circuit rear blower.
Check rear blower fan circuilt starting at fuse in engine bay.
Check rear blower fan resistor and check function of rear blower. If heat is selected then the rear blower must run at low speed at all times.

hope this help although it still sounds as if the front blower has gone so check this first.

i still get heat coming into the cabin at a fairly good speed does the blower come out from top or does it fall into the inside of the car when i looked at it after moving the plastic cover it looked very crammed and difficult to get out from the top
the electrical fault finding i do not understand very well could you please explain how i go about checking and where exactly theses circuits are
thanks in advance

forgot to ask where is the rear blower can i visually see if it is working hard to hear with the engine running lol[:D] does the right hand side have a seperate blower

The rear blower is in the engine compartment to the left hand side you cant miss it!!. See if it is running when ignition is on I dont think you need engine switched on for this. Because it is only the one side you are experiencing problems i still think that it is the front blower causing the problem. The blower comes out from under the luggage compartment and unfortunatly the passenger side is more difficult to do than the drivers side Sods Law!!. Only because of space you have to remove some of the servos and it is still tight to come out. Also because you are getting heat through to the car i am 99% sure this is your problem. It may be worth asking a specialist for a quote on the repair althought i think it may cost in the region of 250-300 pound inc parts []. Like i said before the part is about 150 pounds.

Hope this helps let me know how you get on

regards

hi

Because you have a turbo i believe that there are 2 fans in the engine bay. I dont have a turbo so i cant check so i am a bit unsure as to location although they are probably on either side of the engine bay??

ok im still learning
so what is the set up in the turbo do i ahve two rear fans two front are there any more if i can understand ther heating set up i may be able to work out whats going on
i didnt realise there were two blowers at the front one for each side if this is the case then my driver side one isnt as strong but heatdefinitely comes through when top slider is all the way to the right and bottom slider is all the way to the left
getting them out should not be a problem hopefully and with the help of you chaps ill figure it out i just dont want to mess around with the wrong blower to find out it was ok
what are the rear blowers inthe engine for do they carry heat to the front blowers
my exhaust has no heat exchanger wrapped around it is this why the heating goes luke warm once im hitting higher speeds

hi

Dont know what the turbo set up is. But the NA 964 has heat exchangers , The rear blower cools the engine and also send heat to the front blowers via a mixing chamber. I assume that the turbo is the same although i dont know why you dont have heat exchangers???. I will be interested for some more posts on this. Sorry cant help anymore as i dont want to point you in the wrong direction. Please post outcome as i would be interested
