964 wobble

my 964 seems to wobble a bit when at speed.it is worse on a bump road.the slightest bump and the car seems to wander.is this normal.not had the car long.

It's really difficult to comment on something like this without experiencing it. There are all sorts of things which can cause the car to drift off line - some through wear or bad adjustment and some just because of what it is. With fairly hard suspension there isn't enough compliance to soak up many road defects but much may depend on how your suspension is set up in the first place, what the state of your shock absorbers is like, what springs you have fitted etc. etc.

If you are in any doubt, any worthwhile independant should give the car a check for a minimal sum to ensure that your wheel alignment is correct, dampers functional etc. etc. The front wishbone bushes are a well known 964 weak point too and they can be checked very easily by someone who is familiar with the problem. Since the car is new to you it's probably worth having it checked anyway - better than wearing out tyres unnecessarily.

Mine did the same when I first got it. Make sure all your tyres are inflated to correct pressures. When I checked mine, one of them was 'awry' (10psi) - once it was inflated properly, the car felt entirely different. Much more balanced.

My C2 used to feel very light at the front end at speed, which did not inspire confidence.
However, once the car was lowered and had the suspension set up with some negative camber, it felt like a completely different car, a lot more positive and connected to the road. Much better to drive.

Worth checking that all your tyres are at least in exact matched pairs even if different makes back& front.Tyrewall compliance ratings of different tyres can cause wobble in my experience and drifting but normally when accelerating or deccelerating.
 
My old 3.2 did similar when I bought it and I couldn't figure out what was causing it - until I had the rear tyres changed and the fitter mentioned that the inner tyre wall had 'collapsed' on the n/s tyre.
 
I have had my 964 for about a year now, and I instantly regonise what you are talking about, as mine does just the same. Fine on smooth tarmac, but bumps or grooves has it all over the place. In fact it has a gait that reminds me of an acrobat walking on his hands, it seems to shuffle it's weight from side to side in the same manner.

I have replaced the springs (Eibachs ... it was already lowered, and had a broken spring), new discs, new rear shocks, tracking aligned, new steering rack gaiters, had the bushes checked, it is on decent tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1's) and every other possible thing gone over and pronounced OK. Several other 964 owners have driven it and said it felt fine to them ...

BUT ... I simply don't believe that this was how Porsche intended this car to behave, and I'm damned if I know what to look for next. Suggestions on a postcard please!

The other thing to check is your tyre pressures try 36 all round and see if that makes a difference, my car was always a lot bouncier and more prone to tracking with higher tyre pressures
