964RS 18" wheel sizes

Does anyone have a quick answer for me. I've found some 18" wheels for sale but need to know asap if they'll fit the RS.

What is the ideal fr/rr wheel size and offset for an RS? And is there a 'range' of offsets which will fit.

Currently running 17" mags with 18mm spacers on the rear (I assume I'll need to ditch the spacers?).

Cheers. [:D]

Depends on the rear hubs on the wheels - for instance Cargraphics won't work with spacers.

Isn't the offset on the 964 55 all round and standard wheels are 7.5" fronts and 9" rears.

It's the offsets that are important Rich.....

As Jason said, the offset on the standard RS wheels was 55mm both front and rear. Anything greater can usually be adjusted with spacers although some wheels (certainly my BBSs and, perhaps, the Cargraphics too) have very small recesses on the inside of the wheel to accomodate the protruding studs. When I fitted my BBS LMs I had to fit larger spacers on the front (from 18mm to 26mm) to avoid the standard studs protruding too much.

Without knowing the width and offset of the wheels you intend to fit it's impossible to give you accurate information.

Porsche fitted 18" speedlines to the later 964 cup cars, here are the sizes and ET of those. Ideally these would be the "best" fit on an RS.

Front; 18 x 8J, ET = 52 part no 965.362.136.00

Rear; 18 x 9.5J, ET = 47 part no 965.362/138.05

Are these the same as the 3.6 Turbo wheels? My cup car has 8Jx17 and 9.5Jx17 Cup 1s - I'd quite like to get hold of a set of speedlines and the Turbo ones seem to be the only ones you see for sale.

Turbo 3.6 front wheels are the same size, but different part no, rears are 10"...Turbo body is wider of course...

spec for Turbo 3.6 speedlines

Front; 8 x 18 Et = 52, 965.362.130.0

Rear; 10 x 18 Et = 61, 965.362.140.0

I bought a set of turbo wheels and although they are wider they tend to sit in too far....whereas the 9.5x18 sit right. You'll need big spacers to get them right and to stop them fouling on the inside (Oil Pipe)

If you're going to use the ET61 wheels on the rear of a NB car you'll need 15mm spacers to reduce the offset to 46mm. 14mm would probably be ideal I doubt anybody makes 14mm spacers.

Dave

Don't forget the wheel is 12.5 mm wider to start so the outer rim is already gonna be 6mm further out if you match the offset
