964RS Brake Judder!?

I have just returned from the PCGB Isle of Man trip over the weekend. The trip was somewhat spoiled, or at least frustrating, because I suffered from a lot of judder through the steering wheel under braking.

This was annoying as it meant I had to brake earlier and enter bends/corners slower to try and reduce the judder as it obviously didnt fill me with confidence.

Anyway a Friend has just read the article in April's Porsche Post regarding 964RS brakes and it states a lot of judder under Braking is due to deposits on Pads.

I posted ealier regarding this matter as I was concerned that a new (done 2000 - 3000 khm) set of Official Porsche Discs may have warped.

Has anybody had the same problem and found that a new set of Pads corrects the problem?

Maybe some Pagid (fast road/track) would cure and improve braking!?

It was the answers to my post which I think you read.

The advice I was given was that is almost impossible to warp a set of good discs (eg. OEM) under regular track day or road use.

I suffered exactly the same judder you describe and it was due to me overheating the pads on a trackday and deposits from the pads sticking to the discs.

I was told skimming the discs probably would not help. Unfortunately the only way to be 100% free from the problem is a complete front disc & pad change.

For the record I swapped to turbo drilled discs and Pagid blue pads as recommended by other PCGB members and so far they have been brilliant.
No squeal on the road (which I was told was very likely) and they are stunning on track. My car is a C2 not an RS (yet) so you should probably replace with RS discs not the turbo jobs.

The pagids are a bit of an investment at about £180 but it will cure the problem and give you a useful upgrade in performance.

let us know how you get on

I am taking the car to get the discs and hubs checked. Apparently the Aluminium hubs are sometimes out of shape and this can also cause the judder.

Want it checking to make sure that I change the correct part as change through a process of elimination is expensive.

Think I will go for some Pagid Blue Pads as this episode has not filled me with confidence RE the Porsche pads.

CHECK THE INSIDE OF THE DISCS TO SEE IF THEY ARE RUSTY WHICH CAN BE THE CAUSE OF JUDDERING. BTY THE RS DOES HAVE TURBO DISCS AND THE PADS ARE FINE FOR ROAD USE.
