I have had it confirmed.... following an enquiry from a popular magazine who thought M002 was Touring! that correct designation for the Touring is in fact M007, my sincere thanks to Paul and Paul.

Des, anything else you need to know about 964RS, don't be afraid to ask...always happy to help [:D]

(Only because I remembered Paul Mc mentioned it a long time ago [;)] )

I am sorry but this does not agree with the evidence I have. The official Porsche 964 option list I have been shown that clearly states that M002 is Touring, although the one I have lists M002 as RS Road Version. Both versions state that M007 is a code that wasn't used. In addition, in the PET, all touring parts have the M002 option next to them. It seems to me to be pretty clear cut.

The Carrera RS doesn't have an option number because it is a model in its own right, just like the Carrera 2 or Carrera 4. To the RS "base" model, you add options of which the best known are

M001 Cup
M002 Touring
M003 Clubsport N/GT

Note the use of the term "base". This is seen repeatedly in Porsche information, such as the workshop manual, where models are described as base and N/GT. In fact, there is little mention of the term "basic" (I think I found it once but cannot find it again!)

I have had the above checked by various sources and all seem to be in agreement. In particular, Adrian Streather agrees with this.

So, there is my evidence. If M002 is the "basic", we all need to fit electric windows, mirrors, thicker glass etc as per the parts book!

If anybody has better sources, please let me know!

So if any of you 'touring' RS owners need to upgrade to heavier glass let me know and we'll swap !!! :)

Not disagreeing Simon, this is exactly why I'm asking the question......maybe Lee you have an answer before you PYL .....

The answer I received before was from a very reliable two sources....

So do I gather M002 = Lightweight and Touring?

No doubt des....I would miss you, Who else could I rip the pi$$ out of [;)]

Just getting my own back after you wind up last club night.

On the valuation front........need to get hold of someone that can put a proper value on it.

Sorry Lee was not £48K enough? Must be charging too much!!!!![;)] What really makes me laugh is after nearly 7 years advising you to keep the car and one day it would really appreciate way beyond your dreams........WTFDIB...[]

Just need to put a value on the cost to replace......It would be hard to replace.

With all this talk about cars for 50k with 30 odd thousand miles how can mine be 48k with 19000 miles? Never had a sausage 3 owners from new and a very clean car.

Fact is if it was stolen today and/or written off, What would I have to spend to replace it? Not sure if they're still there but there were 2 on PH with over 30k up for £50k.....And they've probably been repaired at some stage.

I'm not in it to talk it up....just want to make sure it's insured correctly

Spot on Lee, the market is all over the place with NO supply, premiums are being paid "over book" to use a trade description by private punters. How much over book at the time depends on the availability. The market has to settle once the buyers are satisfied and we will see the real prices.

It's Ironic being accused of hyping the 964RS it's legendary best 911 status and upping the values that now being accused of being conservative! Damned if I do and damned if I don't.

Anyway as you say and as I say to any owner if you had to replace your car what is out there.....practically nothing...

The red 4,800 kilometer car sold I believe for £60K that's 3000 miles...so maybe work back from there. Indeed as I write Lee your car could now be £50K, if I valued it three months back it would be circa £45K three months before that £40K...I valued a really nice RHD Lightweight five months ago late £40K that's now wellover £50K. Point being the market is actually moving very fast.

As a car dealer Lee, you can appreciate this, to use another trade expression when I was selling a sought after Ferrari when they were going mad, many years back, Glasses guide said "Normal Values do not Pertain" I think there is a lot of truth in this with the "good" 964RS.

I think hardly anyone of us bought these cars to keep in a garage (sorry Lee) but to use and ultimately do what they do best track them. But if there is a big pie and mash or indeed nicked we all have to replace them. Thus unfortunately we have to talk about money in the real World. So yes could well now be a bit over £50K, I would say you are now comparing directly with H&S who is a dealer....well why not that would be probably the first port of call to replace the RS.

Anyway all the best Lee and look forward to seeing you and your family at Silverstone.[:D]

The really low miler, which I think is 4,800 miles rather than kms, has indeed been sold. It has been bought by the dealer I am getting mine from, so when the speedo for mine returns from it's holiday in the States, he will be collecting it.

I was speaking to Peter at Pink Pig Performance on Friday and it seems that the guy who was selling it has bought the green N-GT with the factory special paint colour that H&S were selling. I asked what he was going to be selling the red lightweight for and it seems that it will be for sale at £60k, so he must have paid less than that. If it doesn't sell, he will be sitting on it for a while and then re-advertising it. I guess that's the trouble when a dealer is an enthusiast as well.

I will reiterate what I said before - Peter is a good guy to do business with

Well I'm glad to see the car's gone up in value in 2 weeks.[;)]

Des...I bought the car 7 years ago.....things have changed and Some of us have moved on.....I don't track the car anymore.....does this mean you have a hairier chest than me???

originally bought to use everyday but realised it was not suitable.

The car is in retirement....Why do you have to ridicule me for looking after this piece of iconic motoring history, the like of which they simply won't build again because technology has also moved on also....You should try it.[;)]

It's simply a case that I enjoy tracking other cars now...maybe that has something to do with value also?

If I were skint I probably would have sold it by now to fund other toys but I've been lucky enough not to have to. So now the fact that I choose to keep it gets me in trouble.[&:][&:]

Will be nice to see the car at Silverstone, you are indeed the "Custodian" of the "Leichtbau" no offence Lee I think the Garage Queen label is wearing a bit thin now, as we are seeing her out and about more. Totally agree about not tracking this one really is too good now with values going up daily.

Had you thought of buying a track hack?
