964RS (carpet) Serious Ring Lap!

ORIGINAL: carreraboy

sorry 7.56

Have had the pleasure of being harnessed into that very car at the Ring several times. Tim certainly doesn't hang around and very rarely gets overtaken.
He has promised to upload his recent RMA laps earlier this year on YT soon, keep an eye out.

Tim can certainly peddle, sure if he did not have a passenger he would be 15 secs faster at least ... Barty do you know what set up spec his carpet is?

Des,

Tim mentioned that is was pretty standard apart from
964 Turbo Brake upgrades with pagid pad, allowing 17 inch wheels.
3.8 rebuilt engine
Full bolt in cage.
Track orientated tyres (not sure of make)
I beleive the work and upgrades were done by previous owner and Autofarm.

Glad you like the lap. [:)]

It's actually from A1 corner to the gantry which is around 20-25secs shorter than bridge to gantry. So bridge to gantry time would be about 8:20. But as you say Des, it is with a passenger!

Simon's spot on with his spec and tyres were super grippy Dunlop DZ02Gs on 17" rims. Engine has hot film injection, just to make it a little more responsive.

Have now got round to uploading a couple of laps from my July RMA trip this year, but was only using R888s tyres which are not quite as good. You can find them under my YT account - timb964. They can also all be watched in HQ if you've got the bandwidth.

Simon, have a great trip out this w/e. I'm really sorry I can't join you.

Hi Tim,

Ring trip this weekend got canned due to Marcus's personal situation. So we will wait until the new year until next trip. Will check out your new YT additions.
Just had the N-GT Hot Filmed and some serious spacers to push those big wheels out a bit.
See you soon hopefully

i am going this weekend, with a group that includes a '64 rs (although i am not taking my '64 rs, but my '96 GT3, which is lame i know, but it's 'optimised' for the ring) - hope it's not too mobbed.

A very respectable lap time. Just for information there is another chap who posts on pistonheads sometimes (Joe 911) who does the btg time of around 8.11. in his 964RS. Not sure of what exactly is fastest time for a 64RS but that must be getting close. Joe911 (Jules P) Also raced in the 24hr in a GT3 Cup, there team of brits managed a very respectable 8th overall a few years back if I recall correctly. I think the GT3 Cups full NS+GP circuit time was a fraction under 10mins.

I had presumed something was happening at the Ring this weekend as we had real difficulty in getting rooms. I ended up about 30km away. Lets hope it connected to the GP circuit. Have a great trip, and photo's please.

I had probably attached that pic by accident ! Sorry for any confusion that may have been caused Chris.

I hope I'm not confused Simon, I thought it was very funny, but I'm guessing not an owner driver [:D]

For all you Ring fans, here's a bit of a treat [;)]

A video I took in July 2008 of a full lap of the Nordschleife in my 64RS. If you like to make the pilgrimage as often as you can, you'll know getting the circuit pretty much to yourself with non-stop lapping is a real treat.
