964RS Comfort options

Hello,

Did the 964RS Comfort ever come with an airbag steering wheel option ? Got some pics of a car available in Japan recently - details where a bit fuzzy but it came with aircon, electric windows and what appeared to be an airbag steering wheel. Not sure if it was a clone but it was listed as an RS - had what appeared to be the correct seats. Chassis number was hand-written on a scanned document but "could" have tied up to the range that's on the RS database site - last 4 digits were 0507 if that's any use to anyone.

Cheers,

Talat.

I have a Touring RHD (UK) it has the same RS wheel as the Carperts and
N-GT's. However it was the first one delivered to the UK, so a later delivery car may well have the airbag.

As a note in the diary of ownership that came with the car, it states that the delivery of Tourings to the UK was delayed by the necessity to homologate the N-GT, and the factory delaying by several months. So it may be they knocked them all out in one batch!
My additional options on my car are - Sunroof, headlight washer, electric windows. Have the JCT600 invoice I can scan if you are interested.

My UK Touring also has the RS steering wheel, other options on my car are:

electric windows
sunroof
headlamp washers

I beleive one of the UK Touring spec cars has air-con rather than a sunroof. I have never heard of an 64 RS having an airbag as OEM equipment, but anything is possible.I guess the only way of being sure that it is an RS is to verify the full chassis no.

Caveat emptor and all that ........

Was it red by any chance? Oldtimer spotted one in Japan last year that he wasn't sure if it was true RS:

Talat, you have mail.

I don't have the car in question on the database but I have seen a couple for sale recently with airbag steering wheels. Not a good look! Pretty sure it's not a factory option though. Would be interested in digging deeper.

Was an airbag steering wheel a requirement for import/retail in Japan?

Maybe, as David said, it was an option when new and the buyer ticked all the boxes.

I suspect the answer may lie in whether or not the airbag wheel was std on the Carrera 2 and 4 for the '92 model year.

It wasn't a Jap dealer car but was imported. I was going to put a cheeky bid in but a couple of things put me off. If it's a rep then it certainly looked a good one. I'm trying to find out how much it sold for and that should be a good indication as to whether it's real or not[:D]

Martin, I'll send you what I have when I get onto my home PC.

Cheers,

Talat.

Mine has air-con, but no sun roof or headlamp washers or airbags.

Does anyone remember when airbags came in?

Well it looks like it wasn't an RS after-all - sold for 4M Yen. Here are some pics that I have for anyone who's interested in what it looked like:

Hmmmm, really dubious about that. Clearly has airbag steering wheel and lower dash, and also looks to have leccy windows and aircon (two buttons on control unit). Possible all were available as options / special wishes or indeed standard Jap spec RS. The things that leads me to suspect it might be genuine are, lack of sunroof, correct seats, and most importantly the headlamp washers are deleted .......... Can't really tell if it has the taller RS gear stick ??????
All told if it sold for a C2 / C4 price than that's probably what it was :)
