Just spotted the 964RS/GT3 showdown, should we challenge the winners?
As some of us have more power and we have the natural balance of the 944 on our side its not suprising we were not invited in the first place [:D] The 944T was the original cup car after all.

I have been jealously watching the results from when they had the first 993/964RS showdown [:D]

Some of the cars are very light, very non-standard and the drivers have more than a modicum of talent. Can I practice North Weald on my PS2 first :ROFLMAO:

Think we would do ok against them, we have the torque from the turbo and the 50/50 balance. A weight loss programme, (usual track day mode of no rear seat, empty boot and glove box etc.) and some sticky tyres would be a must though.
I cant make this year or I would have tried to muscle in [;)]

Is that talent, or money?

Do you guys really think you could compete with cars of this power and youth? I hope so but seeing the GT3's at the track when I race, they are still a fair way in front of us atm. Nothing that a lazy $25k couldn't equalise.

In your dreams gents, beware you are being monitored.

Lali; we will have bouncers on the gates and they know what you look like. You haven't got anything worth bringing anyway!!!

Andys right. I've done a track evening at Bedford with the GT3 boys and on a fast circuit like that there is a world of difference. You have to bear in mind it is a dedicated track car and as such the owners have much more practice and experience on track than most of us 944 boys who only dabble in track play once or twice a year. Indeed several of the Bedford GT3s had dabbled competitively []

I know a lot of our cars have been modified, but so have many GT3's. Lots of them have aftermarket suspension and brakes from Parrs and JZM that have been setup mainly for track work.

It would still be fun to have a go though, and I'm always game [:)]

I dont know how close we would be but it would be fun finding out [;)] Snetterton isnt a slow track and I passed a GT3 there in a straight drag down the back straight and I was 30 BHP/50lbft and a set of ledas down on where I am now, (Paul was all over it with a titchy turbo as well [;)] ). I'll admit the driver appeared to have more money than skill on that occasion. I have also spent a few evenings following very closely a very well driven 996TT with sticky tyres at Silverstone. How much does a GT3 clubsport weigh anyway?

I have a number of cunning disguises....

..and the beast is slowly taking shape! the emphasis is on the slowly at the moment thanks to the monumental medling of the DVLA... but we'll get there!

Tony

Front left wheel 274kg
Front right wheel 272kg
Rear left wheel 457kg
Rear right wheel 457kg

Total (wet) 1,460kg

Corner weighted and track set up, course not honest.

Damn, not exactly 50/50 then.

It's a wonder to me that they actually manage to go around corners at all. [:D]

Weight similar to a 944T then, Evo has it as 1399Kg (though they have GT3 as 1350), I would guess standard more than that, minus rear seat, spare wheel, jack, tools, rear wiper motor, etc. close or lower than that. (big blacks and discs probably add weight back)

EVO has GT3 as 375BHP, 284 lb/ft,
A typical modded 944T 350BHP, 350 lb/ft.
944 weight balance close to 50:50

Gearing (and rev limit) gives GT3 higher top speed - irrelevant on most tracks.

(944 can run full slicks without requiring a trailer as they fit in the boot)

Tony

Which typical modded 944 was that then? I'm straining to think of many at that sort of power [;)]

I think he meant 403.7 bhp / 360 lb/ft [:D] [:D] [:D]

Anything less than 350 lb/ft must be a lux ?

Edited to say that I have seen a GT3 with over 420 BHP at Allan's ...

How much Torque?

Your 403.7 is slightly offset by the large collection of electronics you carry around :)
