From Desmond Sturdee:

" Many of us are renewing our Insurance and should be aware of the rising values. The weaker Pound and stronger demand and increasing rarity has given a good 10-15% INCREASE in values over the last year, I certainly could not replace my car for under £30,000 which I would consider a mid-stream example. The German Market which normally feeds the UK is currently offering cars from a base £28,000 (then you got to get it here and registered) for lesser examples all the way up to £63,000 for a 700 Kilometre car. I have not seen a RHD RS advertised for some time if you do let me know I have a very strong enquiry at the moment for a good example, what price? The last RHD RS I saw advertised was with an OPC for only £35,000 it did not last long!! So all the indicators are for continuing appreciation, exchange rate, rarity (oops another one fallen off the road/track). pan -European demand, growing awareness, RS longevity, uncomplicated, pure, exciting, addictive................................LOOK AFTER THEM GUYS AND GIRLS THEY DON' T MAKE ' EM ANYMORE.........................................

I would suggest a quick gander at www.mobile.de "

Probably being the most recent " new" owner, my buying research over the last 6 months certainly backs your thoughts up.
Cheapest I' ve seen is actually in this months P&911W - Maritime I think for £22k
There was a RHD in Autofarm for £40.5k
Low mileage Maritime in Belgium for £32k
911-rs.de always has a few in around £29-30k but up to £38k
White and Red seem to be slightly cheaper at £26kish (Strasse had one in for a while)
MCP Motorsport seems to have raised his prices to £30k but probably due to the €/£
Most examples that I saw fell into the 30 - 60 thousand mile bracket. Bearing in mind that as the spec on these cars is virtually identical, colour and mileage are really the only differentiators.
I paid £27k from a broker for my 43k Midnight Blue (my preferred colour choice) which I was comfortable with but certainly no red hot bargain. Dont mind telling you cos i' ll never sell it! Within the raft of invoices was a sales invoice from 5 years ago showing the car sold for £2k LESS. D' oh! Prices are certainly stabilised. Look after them everyone.
PS by the way took mine for a 37.75 mile lap of the TT course last night at 9.00pm - gorgeous hot evening (pesky flies) Over the mountain saw 2 other vehicles (quickly despatched) and around 6 bikes. Saw a (legal) 130mph along the Verandah. Like I say, will never sell it!

The Maritime Blue car at 22k.................................apparently a pre-production car with no history........................spoke to the owner about six months ago suggested he contacted the factory direct by simple e-mail to verify this........................Bargain in Porsche Post today Red (I LIKE RED) 964RS lhd £24,999 obviously do not know the car but if it checks out a real steal, these cars have appreciated by 10 - 15% over the last six months.

The 964RS is probably the most difficult Porsche to source, nature of the beast, forget a complete accident free never been tracked car................these are gold dust and exist in Museums............£30,000 is the new benchmark for a good LHD example, if you paying less there will be a story............or you have been lucky............

Timmy I have had countless people come up to me and utter the words

" Wish I had kept mine, do you know anyone who would want to px a Turbo,GT3,993RS, etc..................."

Mark,
Your point is spot on. I do get tired of compaints about the RS dash mostly from jurno' s leaping from car to car for whom maybe having all the switches as rows of tiny little buttons is ok. I know where all the switch are on my RS - and can reach anything important with the harness up tight.
C' mon Gary stop the windups - the GT3 grounds on insignifficant humps (& driving into some OPC' s) so nothings perfect (' cept maybe an RS with the suspension sorted properly!)

Glad we have a forum. I can confirm the increase in price of the 964RS. It does not
only result from a relative devaluation of the pound with respect to the euro, but also
to an increase of the value of the 964 RS on the european markets. Flat6, a reputable
French magazine, quotes the 964RS at 55,000 euros in concours condition (up 8,000
euros from one year ago), and at 48,000 euros in perfect condition. Four years ago,
I bought my first RS for 21,000 pounds (about 30,000 euros!).

Just a query about engine longevity - Melv reports his bottom end in trouble (!) and I think Paul C had recent engine failure. Do we have to start watching the revs , I' m already nursing the clutch [&:]

Interesting point Oldtimer,
Maybe when you get things apart Melv you can report on the overall condition I' d be interested also to know the mileage on Melv' s car & the amount percentage that was track time.
Clutches I think you' ve just got to treat as consumable - better to burn a clutch than break a diff or a driveshaft!

In the 1990 Cup Car series, there was not one mechanical failure amongst 70 cars throughout the entire race series....other than that caused by missed gear shift, these engines are unbreakable, pedal to the metal and let that six cylinder symphony hum baby....................I would guess Melv will find something very minor to report once they have had a proper inspection........................
