968 6 speed into 944S2.????

Big Dave

New member
Hi Folks
Does anybody know IF a 968, 6 speed gearbox will fit onto a 944S2????

If so is it an easy swap.???

Also is a worthwile swap.????

This is just the gearbox + not the whole back axle assembly.

Ta

As I understand it the 968 transaxle is bigger and the 968 has a smaller spare wheel well + possible other changes behind the rear PU to accommodate. It can be made to fit in a 944 with a big hammer, but to do it right will cost money.

Gearbox fits with no problems apart from speedo, does however require 968 fuel tank and gearbox hanger

Ok I'm going off topic. Long time no post PaulR.

How's the supercharged 968/944 going? [8D] You were the first and it's been nearly 2 years IIRC so you will be the ideal person to comment on it's longevity.

Yes i now agree with you regarding the tank + wheel well

I totaly forgot about that......OPPS...

Paul
Have you got a 968/944 supercharged???????
How good is it?????

It sounds like a hybrid???
Is it a 9M kit????

Im very interested in this conversion......VERY.....PLEASE tell me more.......

Car going well, abused for 2 years with now problems and I mean abused, 7300rpm in every gear, every change, not bad for a std engine!

Big D
Yep, I've got the original 944/68 s/c car. It was joint Colin Belton (skill/no-how) and myself (money) project, turned out better than both of us expected
How good is it...... very rarely passed on trackdays..... 1min 17sec laps of Donington, 1min 50sec Oulton(full), will out run 996 GT2's down the straights... its faaaast. cheapest way to real power/performance

Just got new shell for next project.... 1050kg/450-500bhp, should be good for a laugh

So im guessing that you a "bit" pleased with it??

Also i guess youve upgraded all the suspension + brakes to compensate.???? IE what have you fitted ????
Please tell me more OR point me in the direction to find more out....

Dave W ,,, VERY INTERESTED.......

Bored with it now, so new shell, cut off all surplus metal, dip, seam weld, weld in cage, gearbox rebuild, engine strip, rods, pistons and crank work, lower compression, turn up blower (1bar+), Motec (traction control facility may be handy), flare rear arches to fit 285 rears, proflex shocks........ earn more money
can't fault the car, its just time to move on, 350bhp seems to be popping up everywhere now and its time to give 9m a new challenge

968 M030 brakes all round (biggest non drilled discs)
Porterfield pads
Leda suspension (cheap but works), 700lb front/ 650lb rear springs (bit much for the road!)
Lighten car as much as poss. (mines @ 1140kg)

Do this and your car will handle and stop, then add power to suit

So im guessing its a 944S2 base car, with 968 brakes etc
Do you have a bolt in cage fitted?
Ditched all the none essential stuff like rear seats, carpet, front seats replaced with race items, electical gagets,etc,etc...???????

Those springs sound HARD, but then again for the track i bet its a monter??????#########

Id love some pics if poss?????

1988 944 shell, bolt-in safety-device cage (could be available soon)
Apart from dash theres nothing left inside.
Springs are hard but she corners flat even while pulling 1.7g

Paul
