Plenty of 968s in action this weekend at the Britcar 24 at Silverstone. Only one 968 in the 24 hour itself, but herds of them in the Porsche Club Trophy races.

This is the Country Classics-sponsored BBG Racing 968 in Class 4 of the 2008 Britcar 24.

The Country Classics/BBG Racing 968 finished a respectable 31st in the 2008 Britcar 24 Hour race. Well done to Tom Ballentyne, Andrew Radford, Peter Garrod, Peter Erceg and the rest of the team.

Full results from the weekend (PDF document).

Am i missing something here..
As far as i was aware, the County car didnt cross the finish line, but instead was languishing in the pit garage at the end of the Britcar 24hr.???
So how can it be classified as finishing in 31st place.???
It did seem to have a few problems at times though. Driveshaft change, and it looked very much like they were changing the clutch in another unwanted visit into the garage.???
It, the car that is ,, looked decididely "tired" + somewhat scared, at the end of the event...But then again, most of the cars had some form of scaring ..
Still it was good to see a 968 in the race.. "we" did cheer it + the team on...[:D][:D][:D][:D]

On an aside. I do hope the driver of the TVR that had a VERY unfortunate coming together at the very start of the race, is improving. It wasnt a nice sight to see it spearing across the track...+ HEAVILY into the barriers...

GREAT to see that the VW beetle finished in 13th place.....Driven by on of our "bretheren"... Congrats Paul for a good weekend...I hope you enjoyed it just as much as you seemed to... The look on your face summed up the whole exciting event when you climbed out of the car in the night....[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]. You were WIRED....Heres to next year....[;)][;)][;)][:D][:D][:D]

Perhaps its sufficient to have completed a certain number of laps when the race ends? I was only going by the published results.

To be honest, it wasn't until I joined the club about a month ago that I'd even heard of a 968 - and if I'd seen one on the road, I would have assumed it was a 928 - the Porsche I originally wanted when I was 14!

He wasn't in great shape immediately after - they had to cut the roof and top of the cage off - he was spark out across the passenger seat, harness having given out. Not sure what the driver of the Moseler that spun on the straight immediately prior to that accident was on......[:-]

Sorry to have missed you at the day, Dave- we bumped into Will Dew (literally!)

Catch up soon,

Fraser.

Hey Fraser.
Aparently you bumped into Will just before we met up with him in the Bettles garage...[8|][8|]..
The driver of the Mosler aparently had problems with his throttle, in that he pressed it down, nothing happened, so tried again + EVERTHING happened....It all unfolded right in front of us.. We were in the grandstands right opposite it all....
I just hope that Andy Neate [TVR driver] comes through it all. Aparently he is in a induced coma , as he has brocken vertibrae...Doesnt sound very good. But the medical staff can work wonders these days. Lets hope so, in this occasion...????

Hey, Dave, we were in the same grandstand (I guess) but to your right. Got some fab piccies of the Mosler from when he put too much power on at the start of the straight and the pendulum effect started, right up until he did the 180.

Best wishes for Andy Neate - bit of a reality check for when people get in their cars or go on track, really.....

syderman - great job, singlehandedly getting some good banter moving on here! By the way your photos are very good - you'd even got some of our Beetle.

As mentioned above I had the most immense weekend. It is my rookie year in PCGB with the Orange One, prior to this weeknd had only entered 4 races. Then I had persuaded someone to let me pay for a quarter drive in the 24hr race! in a VR6 Beetle. (I was pencilled in for a 968 drive in another car but that entry was pulled) I managed to achieve laptimes similar to the slowest 968's -- when I started I was much worse! Due to the staggered starts of Open v Club races, 15 Club cars got past me in the first race and in the 2nd race I managed to keep that down to 11. so was pleased -- found that holding 4th in a couple of places shoved me along a bit quicker. Anyway, I now have 6 signatures on my record card and can take the yellow cross off the back of the car.

The Britcar was just awesome, did 2 stints of almost 3 hrs each. The first one on Sat night was a baptism of fire -- bright lights, much faster cars and lack of talent being the main issues. Anyway I survived that and when I got back in the car in daylight on Sun morning, managed to find a new rhythm. Ended up posting some laps 4 seconds faster than the daytime testing I had done on Thursday. We actually finished 14th & 3rd in Class 4 --- and with a couple of hours to go a Top 10 place looked like a possibility, so we had soemthing to race for right up until the end. I am bitten and want to do it again -- this motor racing lark can get addictive!

the proud moment at the end of the race
