Saturday September 5th sees the main event for middle year cars at Kirtlington in Oxfordshire.

The 968 is a featured model and we need 4 cars for a central display. The cars should be in presentable, original condition to show off the features of the model.

If you think that your car is suitable and you would like to be involved please contact your Register Secretary,Peter Sherratt, at 968@porscheclubgb.com

Presentable, oh very yes, original condition......mmmmm, may have problems on that one!

Anyone booked this in their diaries, excuse for a meet and social?

JP

I've emailed to offer my coupe - planning to be there even if I don't "make the grade" but will not be entering the concours - my first attempt at one of those, our region show and shine a couple of weeks ago, was too much like hard work!

Go on Jason you know you want to do it. We also have John Friths car a 968CS for the display so if Jason is going that is 3 cars, only one more needed.

Ticket booked, hope we have a decent day for it - also know another couple from R25 who will be there with their Cayman S.

Pretty certain i will be going, not been out to shows much this year and it is about time i kicked a few tyres.

Peter - does this mean i will have to clean it, you know how long that takes me [&:] If you are short of cars i should be able to commit in the next week or so.

JP

I spent a couple of hours yesterday polishing the bonnet of mine - got rid of lots of the swirl marks but not happy with the finish - deliberatly used AG super resin polish as it's a filler as well as a polish, then added a coat of Meguiars NXT Techwax 2 - not a good idea, streaky finish. Oh well, back to the paint cleaner and start again (then try to get rid of swirls on the wings!). Thank goodness Sept 5 is a few weeks away!

Hmm...

Won't have time for that sort of preparation but if a clean black Sport is of any use please let me know. Although it isn't quite as original as it was a month ago.

James

Chris, I think you will struggle to remove swirl marks without a machine polisher. Swirl marks are caused by poor washing techniques, so the swirls could be there due to previous owners using sponges. Never use a sponge to clean the car, all it does is trap microscopic dirt and grit, which then scatches your paint when you put the sponge back on the car !

I use a microfibre sponge which works well. [:)]

Hi Scotty,

As I'm only the second owner, and the first had the car hand washed and polished every week, a large part of the problem is down to me using a cellulose sponge, silicon blade and chamois - until I started learning from this forum and detailingworld. It's now 2 buckets, merino wash mitt for top 2/3rds, microfibre wash mitt for bottom 1/3rd and wheels, microfibre cloths for drying and buffing, microfibre applicators for polish etc - plus I have a 12V 40w "machine" that has 2 x 4" contra-rotating pads (I use Sonus) which I'm using with AG Bodyshop 02b (2000 grit) and 03b (1200 grit) paint renovator (plus a water spray), am waiting for the 01b superfine stuff to arrive. It takes time, but at least with only 40w of power I'm less likely to cut right through the paint! Problem originated with OPC about 8 years ago - new windscreen and sunroof seal fitted, someone used a machine and put the original swirls into the (previously completely flat) paint, I didn't notice when I collected the car.
My first Porsche was a 1983 944 Lux, look forward to seeing yours at P&P.

Peter

I've dropped you an e-mail via the forum (two e-mails actually). Can you confirm that you've received them because I've sent a few to the 968 register address in recent months and never had a reply.

Cheers

Ooops......, as much as I'd like to take the '64RS I can only drive 1 at a time [:D], hope to meet you on Saturday Rich. I think you passed me a few weeks ago on the A417 near Cotswold Water Park, I was in the 968 returning from the Festival of Speed, you were travelling quite briskly in your '64RS; so contrary to urban myth you do actually drive your car and not simply polish it!

cheers
David
