Hi All,

I have aquired a set of 968 door mirrors and the 944 bases for them. But have no idea how so swap the bases, I have managed to remove the mirror but now i am stumped on how to remove the wiring connector and the base from the 968 mirror. Has anyone had expeirance with this that could point me in the right direction

Thanks

gajh

To remove the old mirror housing from the door you need to remove the mirror from the housing & then extract the six pins from the connector & feed the wires out through the hole in the mirror housing stalk.

There are two different types of mirror fixing, old & new. Clark's garage will help you out here.

The bodge fix to do it is to cut the wires & reconnect them to the 968 mirror wires (same functions but different colours for the wires IIRC).

Quite a fiddly job to do well, don't forget to clean the door really throughly while the mirror housing is off because the mounts are a different shape & will expose parts of the door panel previously hidden.

btw the flag mirrors give a better view behind [;)]

I used the 'tool' method described here:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/550018-968-mirror-installation.html

But it's apparently much easier with a socket extension in a vice.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for this, i dont have a vice unfortunatley. So will have to try the tool method the only problem is the screw eye No 0 is out of stock in my diy store. Can a certian size ring spanner not do the same job maybe if it is just to allow the spring to be compressed or does it do another function

Thanks

Gavin

It's been a few years, but I recall improvising with something other than the screw eye myself, but I think you have to cut a slot in it.

do you know what size socket extention they mean 3/8" or 1/2"
Sorry, no. Anyone else?

Installed 968 mirrors about 9 years ago. Did it with bench wise and 1/2 socket extension. It takes about 5 second / mirror. No need any "self-made-special- tools" yanks are reffering to. You just need some muscle and common senses.

gajh, any update on this? My mirrors arrived yesterday and I'd like to find out if you were successful with the fitting. Merry Xmas, by the way!

Hi I am getting there managed to swap the bases so they now fit the 944 just need to do the re-wiring, if you want a document that was emailed to me email me at gavinh@rding.me.uk and i will send it to you
