968 for £10k; sensible buy?

Hi all,

(I posted a similar thread on the 911sc forum as I can't make my mind up between models)

I currently drive a BMW 540i and it's up for renewal in a year (I like to take my time in making decisions [:D]). My budget is £19k and my wife says I need to be sensible and remember the baby.

So, my choice is a 4 year old 535d or a Ford Focus for £9k and £10k worth of Porsche. I have actually had Porsches in the past (enlightend company car policy, would you believe) which were a 1990 944 amd a 1994 968.
I'd really like a 911 but I reckon that £10k is just too light (993 or better...). Would £10k get me a relatively worry-free 968? I enjoyed both my 944 and my 968 but the bills were taken care of by my company.
I understand that I need to check the cambelt but are there any other majot gotchas?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Scott

But you should find a good one for that money. Look for the major work completed, and hold out. There is a lot of Ebay rubbish around at the moment so its just a matter of finding the right one. I am sure if you register with www.968uk.com then you will ofter here of good cars up for sale.

Andrews car listed below was £8,500 and mechanically had all the works completed, so would have left you with some spare to sort the odd job or 2 !

Dont be suspicious of cars just because they seem to be priced too low, thats only because most of the cars at dealers are priced far too high IMHO.

Its a buyers market so get out there and try as many as you can and buy on condition.

There are a few really nice examples out there at the moment

Even low mileage examples can be unloved and tatty so do your research and you could be enjoying a great car for under £10K. Just keep some back for any little surprises like the cams or a head repair (or for modifications!!!).

Good luck
