968 Prices,,,

Hi peeps,

My brother wants to jump on the Porsche owner bandwagon with the purchase of a 968 cabrio tiptronic. Been looking about for a couple of months now and they appear few and far between. Just been reading through the 'advise' post - will mention the info to him - and wanted to know roughly what price would a 'good' 1992 968 cabrio with tiptronic transmission command?

He's looking at this one on ebay currently at £8,100. I think the reserve is £14,500

Any questions I can ask to get a better pic would also be appreciated.

With this milage (89K) would a rebuild be on the cards? Reason of asking is that my garage has just had one in for a rebuild with 106K on it I think.

What differences, extras would a later model have of worth? How much are new pads / disks etc?

Thanks in advance.

968 prices have remained very firm over the last year or so, and this has led some folk to be a bit adventurous with their pricing, but then it is a rare car, and ultimately the market will decide what they are worth. One thing you can be pretty sure of though, if it's cheap ... there will be a reason. Buyer beware.

Also worth remembering that the Tipronic Cab was by far the most expensive version when it was new, so it might yet command a premium.

Suggest you jump onto the forum at http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/ as there is a huge amount of information to be gleaned there.

As to a rebuild ... do you mean engine or gearbox? There is eveidence of some tip boxes now needing work, though hardly a full rebuild. Same goes for the engine, at that mileage it should still be in good fettle, but will almost certainly need some attention to the cams/chain set-up, if not already attended to. Good advice is to leave yourself some cash in hand for any catch-up servicing and maintenance that might need doing.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info on this. I've checked out the one's on Virgin911 but they don't match my brother's criteria, although give some indication as to the ball park figure for these fine machines.
We are going to view the cabrio on Sunday so fingers crossed that all's ok with it and we'll be a two Porsche household!

Thanks.

There is a particularly tasty looking one for sale at a garage in Yorkshire.
Low miles, but expensive. Don't know any more about it though.

Best of luck
