A quick update.

I have finally bought a race car, built by EMC in Bham and only used as a track toy to date.

Its my first 968 and will be on track at the Goldtrack event this coming Sunday.

It was Lalis car I have bought that is known here to some 968 fans, so was called the 'purple people eater' on EMC of Birmigham website...real colour of course Maritime Blue. I am in the process of designing a graphics scheme linked to sponsors I have lined up but it will essentially remain that as a base colour.

It will be run through my new team called PPH Racing Limited which is linked to my website forum www.propertypetrolheads.com and will be supported by Solutions Racing in Oxfordshire, who currently have the car for me.

So far we have fitted two new cobra seats and new Schroth belts, it will be at the Goldtrack day 'skating' day tomorrow at Silverstone, so its debut for me and also my debut in a 968. A very gentle start day just to get used to it and set it up for later this year.

I am not going to enter the Porsche Championship just yet but will cut my teeth in a few dates of other events including 'modern classics' all based around my busy diary and then learn some new tracks this year as my variety of track experience is limited.

I am in my second decade of 911s mostly 997 including the latest generation 997 turbo S which is still up for sale at RPM Tring, plenty of interest but mostly hopefuls rather than genuine buyers. Its a truly amazing car but heavy on track and only its sheer power and traction along with a myriad of gadgets make it look like I am a genius driver. Not a lot gets by it on track days I have done, just the odd Radical or Cup car, but its too beautiful and in too good a condition to use it properly on track, hence the 968 purchase and sell it to a luckly new owner who won't get the hit on a new car price.

Still I only need to sell it by the summer when my new road car arrives that I have been waiting over a year for already. I have defected from my favourite brand to something that is simply awesome to drive and that is the 458 spider so time to separate track stuff from road driving for a while. If I see you at future Porsche events you will notice it as it will the following number plate..... SP13DER. It will keep me going til the new turbo and GT3 arrive and then I might then be tempted back.

What I am aspiring to is a cup car actually so lets see how the next year or two go.

David, firstly a proper welcome to the 968 club.

Thank you for all the info ......... there is no doubt that you have put a tremendous amount of thought into what you are doing, most impressive.

Enjoy the car and enjoy learning all the tracks -- and, can I bag some Spyder laps if I see you at a trackday?

That is a really nice car. My S2 is very much of the EMC haus of speed. I was going to book up for Silverstone tomorrow and come along but decided I really need good weather now so I can crack on with pushing times out of the car.

I would highly recommend doing the last round at Silverstone as an invite. Have a chat with Graham about it, he did CSCC last year but entered the last race as an invite and won the Bill Taylor trophy. It was also my first race with PCGB the year before, for me it was a tipping point as I was close to calling it a day to racing before that weekend but had such a great time it hooked me like never before. There is something really special about racing in front of big crowds with the packed pit lane and carnival atmosphere in the paddock which we seem to get at Silverstone for the Britcar weekend and to some extent down here at Castle Combe for the August bank holiday.
