968 Rear Seats

Hi all,
A question for you, I hope it's not too stupid this time round [8|]. As you may of heard, I have just purchased a 968 Sport which has been converted to a Club Sport (so I'm told). It has two new Recaro "Pole Position" seats in the front (No jokes about Diet's please [8|]) and, has the "rear seat delete" (whatever that may be) to turn it into a two seater for track use. My problem is, I have two small kids that are Porsche mad too and, they want to come out for trips to Beaulieu etc with Sarah and I. My question is, where can I get these rear seats from and, all the seat belts and associated gubbins to sort it all out? I popped into Mid Sussex Porsche today and, was informed by the parts Manager that they are no longer available for the 968 (however, Porsche would be prepared to make me up a bespoke set for £850 per seat NOT including seat belts etc!!!!). However, apparently 944 rear seats are exactly the same as for the 968 (same part numbers etc) and, are much more easier to get hold of! So, do I go and order a set new (they couldn't give me a quote at this time, I was told he would look into it and get back to me)or, look about for a second hand set in Black and in good condition? A bit of guidance from someone in the know would be much appreciated [;)][:)]. Thanks Guys.

Pete'.

I've seen rear seats a few times on Ebay! An ask on 968UK might also yield results from folk who have converted a coupe etc into a track car.

Hi Pete,
Congratulations on the Sport.

The parts do come up from time to time on ebay, as folks do go down the route of deleting the back seats. The rears are hardly used, so usually in good condition.

The rear seat delete is a tray that extends the boot area, it covers the space where the rear seats are. Useful for carrying a spare set of wheels, but not kids.
The Sport had a pair of handed cushions, which are different to the seats found in the 944 and many Coupes. The 968 rear seats from a Coupe should fit a Sport. The Sport black cloth cushion seats are 944 251 2cz (L) and 944 252 2cz (R).

More info on seat configurations and part numbers for the 944 and 968 can be found in the E_STZ_KATALOG which can be downloaded from the Porsche website.

If your children are very young and still require a booster seat, they do fit in the back, but it is usual to fit extra long seat belts, as the standard ones aren't long enough to fit some of the Recaro baby seats. The rear seat belt is handed 944 803 021 02 7B and 944 803 022 02 7B they are about £112 each, a pair of buckles are also needed about £60 477 857 739 B 70B, in addition various fixings will be needed.

My kids are now too big to go in the back, so I am considering a rear seat delete, if you fancy doing a complete swap, including the fronts for my interior, let me know.

Cheers

Oily

Hi guys, thank you so much for your prompt replies! I will give Douglass Valley Salvage a bell this week when I get a few minutes.
Oily, that was a very informative reply mate. Where are you based? Also, when you say a complete swap "including the fronts", do you mean the Recaro "Pole Positions" that I have in mine? Kind regards.

Pete'.

Pole positions and a rear seat delete would sell for much more than a standard 968 interior, and DV have comically high prices.

sometimes when the rear seat delete is done, the centre mount for the split rears in the 968 is chopped off,

this makes for a huge problem as the bolts are welded on from underneath above the torque tube.

Pete give me ring and lets check the mount has not been trashed

Here are some pics of my rear, to give you an idea.

They show the seat cushions and the back rests. The back rests are handed. Quite a few Coupes have a single back rest.

I think the centre mount Martin is referring to, is the one in the 3rd picture above.

Good luck

Oily

Thank you once again fellas [:)]. Paul I think you are right about that mate. Pole Positions go for around a grand each []!!
Martin, I will give you a bell when I get five minutes, sometime this week. Oily, I'm not too sure that I want to sell the Recaro's mate. They are brand new and, I rather like them. I'll have a think about it. I would be interested in buying your rear's though if you wanted to sell them. Hertford isn't too far away from here. Thank's for the pm by the way [:)].

Pete, were your Poles replaced as part of the recall programme?

Regarding the rears, I'd be happy to provide you a loan of my rear seats until

a) you sell your car
or
b) I decide to sell mine (zero intention)

Subject to you paying p&p both ways and you strictly agree to return them!

If you are genuinely struggling with your poles with 'comfort' issues, I may also be able to help there too...

Pete, AFAIK the Pole Position mountings don't tilt or slide so how will your kids get in the back of the 968 ?

That was a very kind offer Steven re the loan of your seats. Thank you kindly Sir, however, I would rather not loan them in case anything happens to my car and, I would feel responsible for them. Thank you anyway mate [:)]. Paul, as far as I know, the "Poles" do slide back and forth. Not sure if they tilt though, perhaps someone else on here might confirm? Also forgot to say, Steven, I may be a "Fat C U Next Tuesday" but, I'm not having comfort issues just yet as I still haven't collected it yet, although it is now paid for in full. Martin (Waylander), reckons I will have to Diet to fit in them comfortably and, so I am [8|]. I have cut back on the Jap Lager and Curries and, Kebabs. Got myself back down the Boxing Gym Four times a week and, I have lost a stone since Christmas [8D][:D]! How's about that then?!?! [;)]

well done mate, not only is it an extra 20BHP for your car but also better for your health,

when it get down to JMG you will loose another stone, this time out your wallet

Peter (Oily) came to visit today. We did the deal on my Recaro Pole Position seats and, rear seat delete in exchange for his 968 sport interior, Peter taking care of the swap over and, a few quid my way [:)]. Peter's interior is in quite a nice condition but, I'm going to get it all trimmed in Black leather to match the Black body work [8D]. Peter, if you read this, don't forget to send me the contact details of the trimmer you recommended in Harlow. My little kids are positively chomping at the bit to get a ride in daddy's shiny Black 968 [:D]!
Thank you for coming down today Peter, hope you got home safe and sound [:)].

Oh well, I guess Peter (Oily) must of changed his mind [8|]. I haven't heard a word from him since March 30th?? I'm actually starting to get used to the "Pole Position's" now and, quite like them so, I am probably starting to change my mind too regarding keeping them [;)]!

Have you tried a PM or phone call?? Unlike Pete to be like this, maybe he's had other distractions!! Might get more response vis porsche968uk forum. I've PM'd Pete for you.
