968 Specialist

Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a 968 specialist within about an hour's drive of Cambridge? I'd really like someone to give mine a good once-over, and can't seem to find anywhere.
I've psychologically ruled out Cambridge OPC, on the basis of price a (possibly unfounded) expectation that it's not a model they'll have a great deal of interest in, but please correct me if you have any experience to say I'm wrong!
Thanks,

I would use RPM in Tring, very good at 968s, or JZ Mactech, Kings Langley, both an hour if you drive a Porsche!

Don't know about Cambridge OPC but Leicester OPC look after several frontrunners, with good recommendations.

also, TWG in Peterborough have a rep with our cars: http://www.twg-porscheservicing.co.uk/

another enthusiastic Porsche indy is Dove House: http://www.dovehousecars.com/

best thing would be to get them to do an inspection only ........ identify the 'must do's' from the 'might do's' get the work quoted before jumping in too deeply!

Strongly suggest try OPC Cambridge. They have lots of experience of older cars, several technicians who have been there since 944s and 968s were new, and special rates for them - you should have been at the all-day "Buying and Owning" seminars that PCGB Norfolk and Suffolk and Cambs and Beds Club ran with them recently. Talk to After Sales Manager Gary Sorrell if you have any doubts. Recommended.

Thanks all! I've heard lots of hood things about RPM so will give them a ring this weekend. I've also heard good things about Cam OPC, but am put off a bit by the prices. Will give them a call though to compare. Will let you know how I get on!
Thanks,

Strongly suggest you register on 968uk and rear about Rotta's recent (and ongoing) "experience" with [***} and his 968. It makes uncomfortable reading.

[***] ..........from his report, what has been done to Rotta's car, I don't think I would ever consider them to be a bona fide Porsche specialist, ie. a company that has the wealth of knowledge needed to work on a Porsche(specifically a 968). It's sad and expensive for Rotta and a shame that a 968 has been left in that sort of condition by a 'Porsche specialist'.

I think the issue has always been the same, 968s are a relatively rare car and so the chances of a mechanic having done any real amount of work on one before are relatively slim, I suspect that most have only done basic servicing, but when asked, would answer that they know the car intimately and are in fact specialists on all Porsches.
For instance how many mechanics including Porsche specialists will know not to lose the oil non return valve when they take off the head. Probably only a handful in the UK.
How many will know about the notch on the plastic cover relating to the balance shafts, from the reports I've seen over the years of poor servicing and belt changes gone wrong, again, not many.

I use EMC in Birmingham, but this may be a too far out of your way.

I've also used EMC in the past and would highly recommend them, premises are nothing fancy but they do seem to know these cars inside out, and provide a very good no bullshit service.

I'd like to get a fair and honest picture, could you send me by PM or email your expereinces with RPM.
