968 Sport intermittent engine cutting out

My friends 968 started cutting out intermittently. I suspect the ECU, (car has been chipped by superchips).

All connections seem fine.

It appears to be a straight ignition cut out, anywhere from 3/4 secs after starting or 5-10 mins into a run! After a cut out, it picks up again and will run fine, until a next cut out at some unpredictable point in time.

Changed the usual DME and ignition relays, just wondered if the hot weather is playing a part!

any advice would be appreciated.

Yeh, the link Ian mentions is a great source for '68ers.

Meanwhile, PET will cover the option codes, as well as i presume info on the engine codes.

I also dug up this link which may be of future use to you, not only re M150 query.

Re cut-out problem, if not done already, a useful elimination step would be to go back to the original chip if poss and try that in the same conditions.
Otherwise perhaps stick a Promax 968 chip in instead, there's a choice of 2 - they specialise in Porsche engines and individually design the chips via on-the-road / track use.
Promax chips can readily be sourced from

and Stu there will give you / your mate all the advice needed.

I got my friend to buy a replacement ECU, which he got from Simon butterworth of Porsch-Apart. So far so good, problem resolved. But I can't help wondering if the scorching weather is stressing some of the electronics. The ECU is tightly packed in the footwell with the alarm modules, it must get hot in there.

Also, he didn't realise the car had been chipped until i remove the ECU, from the marks on the casing it was obvious that the unit had been opened. Always better to advise your insurance company that it has been chipped and given the conservative increase in power it is not likely to load the premium.

I'll retry the Superchips IC after a couple of weeks.

thanks for your input.

this forum can be invaluable at times.

cheers
