968-type steering wheel

xenon

New member
Anyone know where I can get a 968 steering wheel to replace the 944 lozenge wheel, without paying a small fortune?

Second hand is fine [:)]

Xenon,

Use that steering wheel for a couple of weeks before swapping it out.

When I bought my S2 I was of exactly the same mindset as you, but the wheel suits the car and is nice to use. Don't dismiss it so quickly ...

(And proper 968 ones cost a packet! If you do change, think about a Momo or similar - they are much cheaper.)

Oli.

Fair comment, Oli - I thought it looked odd, but it was (is) quite nice to use. I'll see how I go.

Try PH Sportscars at Shardlow near Donington Park/ J24 of M1 - I bought one from there about a year ago - £150 fitted.

It is a modern design classic. Seriously in years to come one of the big car design elements ppl will remember is that steering wheel applied to 80's Porsche's. It is unique and when you get in the car one is instantly reminded that you are sitting behind the wheel of a Porsche. Shame it isn't a bit thicker though.

I take your point with regard to design but it feels very 70's (not even 80's). Perhaps because it can be found on 70's porsches.

It is your main point of interaction with the car - change it. You will be surprised how much more modern the car feels - it is worth £200+ for that alone.

I have a Momo wheel on my 968 as I do not like the standard 3 spoke 968 wheel, the thick rim is not to my taste, however I recently fitted it to my S2 in place of the standard wheel, and I still don't like it. It will be changed for a Momo wheel just as soon as I can. Steering wheel preference is down to personel taste, and is such an important part of the interaction with the car, I find thick wheel rims clunky and they detract from the driving experience.

After years of use I decided the original steering wheel felt too hard and thin on the front of the rim and because of this quite uncomfortable. I changed to a Momo Race (£80 used on eBay with boss) and haven't looked back, so much nicer to use and with much better feel of what the front wheels are doing. It'd now be one of the very first things I'd do to a 944 if I started again.
Best regards,
Peter
