I'm looking for a 968CS primarily as a trackday car, but also ocassional road use. Apologies for my ignorance but can anyone short-cut the learning curve for me and tell me what I should be looking for? I'd like to spend no more than £15k if possible. All help gratefully received.

It is a buyers market at the moment with a wide range of cars available. The best thing to do it start looking at as many cars as possible and get them inspected by an expert if you are interested in any. A clubsport is the obvious place to start but if the price and condition is right dont dismiss a sport or coupe. Both can easily be used for a track and have the added comfort benefits. I know a very nice Coupe (Stu) that can show a clean pair of heels to many a CS on a track.

I have a copy of the 911 & Porsche world buyers guide if you need a copy but youll find all you need on the 968 website www.porsche968uk.co.uk. The forum is full of tips for new buyers.

The most obvious things to look for is plate lift on the brakes, worn camshafts, gearbox and pinion problems. Bare in mind that a well cared for higher mileage example would have had most of the problems sorted out where a lower mileage car may have it all to come.

I am not sure of your track experience but if you are a beginner it may be best to find a good car and then when you are used to driving it start looking at suspension mods, brakes etc etc. Good luck

Now for the plug.....

My 968CS is for sale and is the ideal base for a trackcar with the weak points of a 968 sorted out. If you need any advice or want to look at the car give me a shout.
