968 vs. S2 compatibility issues

I was wondering if it is possible to run a 968 engine in an S2. If the Variocam throws things out, how could that be got around?

I've tried searching. I know it was once vaguely discussed on PH many moons ago.

Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be fairly straightforward. The engine wiring loom in your S2 is separate from the cars wiring loom. You will need the complete 968 engine loom, ECU etc to make it work. I am sure ppl have done this before, Lali on here has a 968 motor in his 924 cgt replica. We are considering doing a manual gearbox conversion on my 968, that is a much bigger job as it requires everything including the clutch housing backwards. I know its the same stock answer as to your question which is to just buy a manual gearbox 968, but as with all things its often better the devil you know, especially one that has a lot of previous work and recent money in it.

There's been a few people on rennlist doing this, it's well worth a search there to see some of the issues people have faced. I have to admit that unless the S2 lump is knackered I wouldn't have thought it was worth it for the small gain in power, but it'd be a fun project nonetheless.

My block is scrap. At some point the car has suffered from a seized piston on the no.2 bore, hence why I am considering one. A damn shame as besides the racket below 3k it goes like an absolute train[:(] (something EMC commented on when Alex drove it).

You mean it's possible to run an engine below 3000rpm? :ROFLMAO:

Sorry to hear about the block, I'd be tempted to put the effort into making sure the replacement S2 lump is really well sorted, that is unless you've come across a bargain priced 968 engine (rather rare in my experience!).
