968 WATER PUMP

Hi, really need some help here ! The water pump on my 95 968 sport needs replacing and im having real trouble trying to find one in stock anywhere- i've been told it could take months.

I think the part no is 944 106 00300

and the gasket is 944 106 13212

any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm assuming youve tried the usual suspects from the ads section on porsche post ie berlyn porsche parts, porschapart etc etc? or you could try one of the breakers advertising in PCGBPost, either as a long term solution or, if youre unhappy with 2nd hand parts, as an interim measure

Thanks i'll try Berlyns. Everyone I call claims to be able to order it in. However on ordering no one seems to be able to get one. Porsche said it could take months ! I guess it's just finding someone who happens to have one on the shelf.

It seems crazy to me that you cant get a part for a car that is only ten years old.
I think I may have to look overseas.

Carole,

Also post on the 968UK forum as you will find the majority of 968 owners reside over there.

I am surprised that Simon at Porsche-apart cannot come up with something.

Carole,

I had a re-conditioned water pump fitted to my 968. But this was done during a yearly service at Merlin (now OPC Nottingham), and the work was booked in 1 month in advance.

Hope it helps, good luck.

[:D] Found one, in Ireland would you believe, so hopefully car will be back on the road soon.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Happy motoring

Carol

My water pump was changed at Hartech as a precaution when doing the full chain, rollers and belts jobbie.

The better independent specialists like them usually keep one in stock on an exchange basis so that they can satisfy customers quickly. That might be a way to go if you are not 100% committed to the Irish solution.

Paul,

Would you mind elaborating on your comment that you had the water pump changed as a precaution ? - when I had the belts and chain (and cams) changed on my car I was not told I should be doing anything with the water pump at the same time.

Chris

There was no obvious problem with the water pump save that the bearing was slightly less 'smooth running' than a new one. It seemed a false economy not to change it when everything was opened up -- I was given the option and chose the safe route. Bearing in mind that the extra labour element was minimal when compared to doing this job on its own.

If I remember rightly I had read a few posts immediately prior about a variety of top end problems with our cars if not properly maintained. I conclude that attention to detail in this area will ensure no surprises at a later date. Done about 3000 trackday miles since and the engine has not missed a beat.

My only experience is with Hartech who are IMO a most knowledgeable independent. I hate to think what an OPC would charge.

Download the pdf file off this page (http://www.hartech.org.uk/service.htm)to view their prices - it says £375 + VAT for a waterpump installed on an exchange basis -- this will be a bit cheaper if you are having a 'C' service as some of the area is already exposed. Please note that the first time you go there that you have to have a C service as a minimum.
