968 wheels

Guys, think it was in the club magazine recently but someone did an article on the various types of wheels fitted to the car i.e cup 2's or the other type.

Is there by chance a link to that anywhere on here as the magazine has dissapeared.

Thanks

AFAIK there were 2 types - Cup 1 and Cup 2. 16" standard on coupes and cabs, 17" standard on Sport and CS, optional on coupe and cab.

Thanks Chris, that kind of answers my question as to why they look a little different at times didn't realise they had 16s and 17s

Further to Chris' post above, only the Cup 1's were available in 16" and 17", all Cup 2s are 17". I have also seen photos of very early 968s wearing D90 alloys. Mick

Would they have been pre-release press cars, or test mules? Porsche were trying to facelift the 944 in to a new model, putting on the period D90s wouldn't help!

My wife has a 968 cabrio which she drives every day, rain, hail or snow.......you can in NZ!. I had to collect it from our OPC the other day, so this was the first time I have driven it for ages. what a great car. Was truly impressed! Man thats a nice collection of Porsche you have there ! I am looking into a 968 cab for my missus at present. Love the 16" narrow spoke cups. These are one of the lightest varieties , i have them on my targa

Hi guys, picked the car up yesterday funny enough, and it has cup 1 fitted the 16" narrow spoke, spoils the looks of the car completely in my opinion, but have always been aware that the wheels on any car can make or break the whole visual impact. Will either stick on the 18" speed line copies that have at some stage been on every Porsche I have ever owned (as per my avatar) or go for some cup 2 17" as soon as I can. And before someone tells me the car will not drive well with 18" yes I know thank you :) Anyway the suns out so off for a little test drive later, it's the wife's toy for her birthday (today) so nothing to serious I hope. Regards

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=675909 For anybody who wants to get the best out of their car in the wet, try these fitted with Conti Sports .... Very light, the deeper side wall makes the car more feelsome and those Conti's are good !

Not sure how light these are Chris, they are the cast D90s not the similar looking forged version - which are definitely light.

nd before someone tells me the car will not drive well with 18" yes I know thank you :)
Do you know that the car won't.....oh, I won't bother. [:D][:D] Actually it'll be OK so long as the geometary is spot on, but I'd price in a trip to Centre Gravity if going to 18".

As I say it's the wife's new toy so she wouldn't know the difference on the way to sainsbury,s :) I put 2 of the 18's on today just to see what it looked like, like I needed reminding anyway but oh boy just looks the mutts ! Also picked up a set of cup 2's this afternoon, so will see what they look like in the morning. Think I will sell the cup 1's , they are extreamally light as said above. Will try and post all 3 pictures of the car with different wheel options tommorow just for others reference if nothing else.

Hi Mike, if interested you can have first refusal, wheels need a refurb but are basically sound. Has 2 new front tyres continental, rears have a little use left.

Evening Guys as promised above 16 / 17 / 18 inch rims on the wifes car. Think I really like the 17's best, which I never thought I would say as a big fan of the 18" rims, car needs lowering though with those fitted otherwise it does not look right in my opinion. Regards
