968S Critical Checklist?

Hi, Giving a 968 sport a test drive this afternoon from a local indie that I've been in/out of for the last 6 years and that I've bought/serviced from before. This Sport has a Promax CCU set up and uprated exhaust. Engine was replaced a year or so ago with a low mileage one from a tiptronic. All set up and on the button. Otherwise it's all pretty much a stock Sport.

Any major weak points or areas I need to pay attention to (apart from the usual sill rot)?

Thanks in advance.

Marcus

History, belts, cam chain/teeth/slipper, water pump. A ferret round the porsche968uk forum would help, it's far more active than the 968 forum on here.

Nice one Chris - appreciated. Will follow these things up. Problem with an engine swap I guess is that not all the (engine relevant) paperwork comes over. These guys are honest and reputable enough that if it all went down hill soon after purchase they will sort it..

Took the plunge. A test drive and all was good. Mileage stands at 76k (6k only covered in the last two years). It's a Sport and is all things Club Sport except the seats - everything else the same. Key items that have been done recently;

- Replacement engine from tiptronic 968 (45k miles) fitted (12/13)
- Cam chain, pulleys, tensioner, rollers, belts replaced (03/14)
- Waterpump and thermostat replaced (03/14)
- New PAS pump (03/14)
- Cat converter fitted (03/14)
- Recon starter motor fitted (02/14)
- Ref/coolant sensors replaced (02/14)
- Stainless exhaust fitted (02/14)
- ARB bushes (09/12)
- Steering UJ (09/12)

RPM had a spare tiptronic with less miles they acquired and was easier for them to swap out than look at the problems of the original engine (will confirm the cause/reason). Sills have been borescoped and show no signs of rust/corrosion. Think I need to double check the diff or get some guarantee on this. What's the main issue with these - leaks, seals, early degradation?

Nice about it is that all the interior is original and in top condition - sports cloth seats (front and rear), steering wheel, carpets etc. No dinks/dents at all anywhere on the red body (just the usual odd stone chip). Cup 2 wheels all refurbished.

Just don't take it abroad,then.Marcus[:)]-looks like you're starting a collection!
You little tinker! Hope to take it up the road now to Silverstone for a few track days. Was on the lookout for an earlier SC or 3.2 or even another 964, but flippin heck - things have gone crazy this year and I just don't see it as being sustainable. Now I have something I can track too without the worries...
