I can't get thro to 968UK this evening. I can get the menu OK, but every time I try to read a post I get some "debug" message.

Is it just me, or does the same apply to everyone else?

Couldn't get on yesterday. Just tried it at 1.30pm Sunday, still same error de-bug message.

Hi chaps, newbie alert !!

I tried the uk site earlier and its dead apart from the main index, it looks like a problem in the main forum data file. I do hope the fella that runs it has made a backup I've been lurking over there a while and there is lots of good stuff that I have read about these cars and it would be a shame to lose it all.

I haven't got a 968 yet, I'm looking but not fully convinced my wallet can cope with the maintenance bills, certainly cheap enough to buy but not to own. Some interesting stories on servicing one car with the broken adjuster arm thing and the other guy with the Blue CS has had some serious bad luck with that oil pipe saga, doesn't make me feel too warm inside just yet.

I recognise a few names here are you all off the 968uk site ?

Ciao

welcome aboard.

at times you have to be careful with 968's but the overiding benefit for me is that it is a very well engineered car, the end of the f/engined Porsche line, the engine is not very highly stressed (80bhp per litre), it handles like a dream, it is not depreciating anymore and will go on to 200,000m or much more no problems.

however if you do not have the belts and cam chains done when neeeded and by a knowledgeable specialist -- thenyou might get a nasty surprise -- hence all the posts. If you buy a sound car with no cam belt or cam chain history be careful, you will need to budget for about £1000 to 1200 to get them changed, sorted and serviced -- then you get at least 30k of trouble free motoring.

hang on in there, get one soon and there will be no turning back, trust me and good luck.

Hi Folks,

Just back after a few days in the wilderness (the mountains of Sutherland) with the 968, and I have a message from Stu simply saying he has a problem with the forum, but he's working on it.

Isaac,

You are right, no Porsche is cheap to own, but costs are not ruinous if you buy carefully. And remember you are getting about £40k worth of car for about £15k or less. That leaves a lot of scope for some maintenance.

Buy one with new belts, and cam chain, and which has had new disks, pads, shocks and a calliper overhaul and you'll be laughing. Otherwise, bargain on doing these. Overall, pretty bomb proof.
