98 octane fuel

Grateful for any views on whether it is worth using 98 octane fuel in my Boxster S (2003 3.2). The manual recommends it but says the engine can cope with 95 octane by adjusting the ignition timing to avoid pinking. But also says 98 is more economical. I use the car on road not track. Are there any other advantages to using 98 and how much more economical is it? By the way I got 28.7 mpg on a tankful when on a round trip from Portsmouth to the Brecon Beacons this month (using 95 octane fuel).

Thanks

Brian

The car is designed to use both, if you are after peak performance then 98 or 99 is where it will be. If it runs ok then stick with the 95 and save the dollars.
