98 RON

An old chestnut, I know - but does anybody know who actually sells 98 RON petrol these days ? Round here its all 97, 99, 100 etc, (plus the dreaded 95 RON which we do not mention).

Now Shell optimax has changed to 99 RON, I really don't know where to go.

I don't think there is a common 98 RON anywhere, BP Ultimate is 97, Shell V-Power is 99, Texaco and Esso are both 97. I try and use V-Power but its not easy.

I had to fill up with some 95 in the Yorkshire Dales (it might have been Tetleys!) and the car did not like that at all - fortunately only about 20 litres though.

What's your concern about running 99 RON over 98? I realise your ECU might not be able to make use of the extra RON but at least it will guarantee the diluted mix in your tank is closer to a true 98 RON.

I think that was the point - that you can't actually get a 98 so to meet the spec you actually have to use 99

As long as 99 RON is OK, then I'm happy. I was worried we might be causing engine damage by "over fuelling" with too rich a fuel.

While were on the subject, does anyone have any personal experience with octain boosters and fuel additives. Ive got this NOS octain booster fuel additive thats been siting in my garage for 5 years, I dont dare use it. It says it can up the octain by as much as seven points. To me it sound like a recipe for disarster.[]

Problem for me is actually getting any 98 (or above) up on the west coast of Scotland. Can't even find BP's rubbish easily.

As the thread starter, I can confirm there was a point, I've just forgotten what it was. Now I've lost the will to live, I exercise my right to close this thread. The next poster will have 98 RON poured down his trousers and set alight.

Ooh, you beast! [:D] You're a fire starter, too.
