981 cayman flashing indicators

Hi all,

My 981 cayman indicators have been flashing all evening after locking it. Hence my battery was down to 11.7v this morning.

Today, after charging the battery all day as soon as I locked the car the indicators started flashing again. So i presume i'll have a flat battery again tomorrow morning.

I presume this is some kind of alarm fault?

Has anyone else experienced a similar thing?

Do alarm faults show up in piwis?

Asking because i can't really afford to pay an OPC a great deal to diagnose the fault so anything I can do myself to make fixing this quicker and cheaper will be much appreciated.

thanks

I think it could be several things but likely to be alarm module related. There is a separate battery in there which could be on the way out. Or the siren not functioning. Anyone you know could try a diagnostic device on it?

Hi Mark,

Usually you get something like a single beep if there’s an alarm module fault when you lock the car using the key fob, but some strange things can happen if there’s problem with the battery, so maybe that’s the source of your flashing indicators problem? Any battery supplier should be able to check the battery condition, probably FOC.

Porsche’s PIWIS diagnostics will identify any system error codes, but any decent Porsche Independent should have an equivalent diagnostic tool and they will be much cheaper than the official Porsche dealers.

Maybe you can pull a fuse to isolate the indicators temporarily and prevent them draining the battery?

Jeff

Edit: As Alan has said, a failed alarm battery could produce unknown issues. Unfortunately I don’t think that it can be replaced without breaking into the unit![:(]
