981 disc & pad replacement

My son has a 2013 Cayman and has just bought a complete set of Brembo pads & discs from Euro Car Parts at 50% discount price.
Have fitted loads of discs/pads on various cars over the years but just wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of a "how to guide" for the 981 brakes as I also need to know the required torque setting for calipers & carriers.
Will also be a heads-up for when I get around to do the brakes on my 981 Boxster.
Thanks

can't help with torque settings I am afraid but you normally need a hand held device to rest the electronic handbrake

Keith,

Here's a good guide to replacing the pads on the 987-series cars. I would think that the procedure is similar for your son's 981 Cayman.

The Pelican Parts website has lots of useful information; I'm sure you'll find an article there on disc replacement.

Sorry but I can't help with torque settings - you could try PM-ing Richard_Hamilton who has access to a lot of technical information.

Have viewed a few youtube videos and all seems straight forward.

Caliper bolt torque appears to be 63 ft-lbs (which is 85.4 Nm).

Although videos viewed recommended changing the caliper bolts one suggested its ok to grease with copper-slip and refit old bolts.

Can anyone shed more light on the need to reset the electronic handbrake, I assume, with an OBD unit.

I have a very cheap one that I used to use an my MG TF but not sure this would be suitable if needed.

I don't think any PIWIS action is required on the electronic handbrake.

The bolts really are stretch bolts and mine are always changed.

Been in touch with Design 911UK

They have told me these are the caliper bolts I need

front

M12 x 1.5 x 77

code 99906705009

£5.40 +vat each

rear

M12 x 1.5 x 72

code 99907340201

£3.60 +vat each

With club discount, £50 for a complete set.

Ouch

Can anyone confirm if the above is correct as this place sells these

Same part number as for the rears as listed by Design 911UK but only for £2.50 +vat

The rears are the same as the fronts just 5mm shorter but are £3 more per bolt for the fronts at Design 911UK.

Can anybody shed any light on this please.

Keith,

Have you tried contacting your local PC for a price for the bolts, bearing in mind that you'll receive a 10% Club discount?

I'm not sure what you'll need to do re the electric handbrake. I'd set it to the "off" postion before replacing the rear discs and just suck it and see what happens when you apply the handbrake after disc replacement. You may need to adjust the shoes manually afterwards; presumably in the same way as that required for the manual handbrake.

In my experience after Club discount Porsche Centres are sometimes significantly cheaper than Design 911UK, and will happily post to you if you can't collect.

Thanks guys.

Was going to get a comparative price from my local OPC anyway for the bolts and had forgotten about our club 10% discount so will give them a call and get a price.
