Probably because Porsche have a failure/replacement warranty from the Tier 1 supplier who will recycle/repair, which is fine (subject to availability) for warranted cars but not so good down the road. I guess the level of failures is low because there is no secondary repair market in Europe, AFAIK.

Oddly enough John, the PET for the 986 Boxster does show parts for that car’s transmission, so it’s possible that there could be a common part given that the mid-engine cars have always used a Getrag-supplied unit. If you’re looking for a reliable transmission rebuilder I would think that one of the well-established Porsche Independents should be able to tackle the job, although I’m not aware of any specialists.

Yes these are my thoughts also, but there’s no part number on the actual unit, but they have got a local engineering company on board who says they can make something that would do the job, so
