981 Insurance

Hi All,

Who are people using for insurance on 981 Boxster's? I've spent the last few days ringing around and seem to be getting my arms pulled off! I've had a look on the comparison sites but really want a better level of cover like knowing I can use a Porsche Approved repairer and use a main dealer for a replacement screen/re-calibration.

Obviously aware of policies increasing in respect of yesterdays ruling but i'm around £150 plus difference on last years which is 20% up.

So far I've tried Adrian Flux, Nowell & Richards etc. Tried to approach Carbon Insurance Brokers (the new, old Porsche Insurance) but still not taking on new business.

Locktons are next on the list.....

There is a separate thread on this in the "General Discussion Area" (scroll down). In my experience, both Locktons and Manning who advertise heavily in Porsche Post are both a waste of time.

I went to Esure for my 981 Cayman.
I was previously with Avviva being the Porsche official insurer but price at renewal was much higher last October and i wasn't interested in the track day cover anyway. Admiral who were very good and authorised a repair at a Porsche approved bodyshop without viewing were also much more expensive this time.

I have been with Porsche Insurance since we bought our first 981in 2013 from new and always found them the best deal, Locktons are hopeless and just think of a number and triple it!!
Our insurance last year for a base 2.7 Boxster was £303.98, fully comp with protected NCD and including Class 1 Business use, Lockton quoted me £660!!
We changed part way through the year to a 981 GTS and paid an extra £50 for the rest of the year.
We have now renewed from March with Porsche Insurance who have now moved from Marsh to Carbon, cover still with Aviva, cost £269.78, asked Lockton to quote and you guessed it, over £900!!

I am over 50 (4 years NCD), just changed the car from a 987 to a 981 and am with Saga.
I got some quotes when my renewal was due last November and some of those that advertise in the PP were quoting 3 -4 times as much for the 987 that I was paying to Saga.
I did get a competitive quote from Lockton, went back to Saga to cancel and surprise surprise, they came up with a better quote for me so I just stayed with them.
I was paying about £360 for the 2011 2.9 987.
Its about £420 for the 2012 3.4S 981.
I pay quarterly so there is no credit charge.

Just going through the same process, gave Locktons a try but came out over £590, which I think is rather excessive. I'll try Carbon next

Best quote I have so far is around £470 with Hastings Direct..... (any positive experience?)

Next best is £570 with Adrian Flux.

Sadly after those two I've had £1150 with Nowell & Richards, £750ish with Locktons and £1250 with Manning.

It seems the problem with brokers (all seem very friendly!) for me is despite only using the car for social/domestic and doing sub 5000 miles a year they don't like that its the only car in the household.

Newbe to forum here, I have just changed from CCi as I previously had a Lotus Elise and purchased my 981 Boxster S half way through the year so stayed with them until renewal this month. CCi (Aviva) want £470 ish. Changed to the NFU, £277 per year, including protected NC. Legal aid, road rescue, £500 excess, garaged in a grade A low risk area.

I had a very professional quote from NFU for £227, slightly less than Saga so well worth a try. Product very comprehensive. The only downside was their mandatory excess for theft of £1000, (10 x current Saga theft excess of £100) on which they wouldn't budge. Some unusually entertaining questions from NFU too, about carrying large numbers of shotgun cartridges and/or explosives!

I have never managed to get a price out of NFU, either for my BMW 330d or my Spyder. Trouble is, they never tell you why they feel unwilling to quote

Unfortunately for me I qualify for a Saga quote but on their website it came in at around £350.
The NFU (National Farmers Union) I suppose is used to having clients drive around with guns and ammo in their cars, I fall into this category every now and again.

I did mine (718 rather than 981) through LV, I have house insurance with them so got an extra discount.

You never know how good insurance is till you have to make a claim and unfortunately I've had to make a claim on the house insurance a couple of years ago and they were excellent which is one of the reasons I went with them for the car.

15k miles per year, protected NCB, business cover for the wife, overseas use was just over £500

I've just been quoted £439 on a renewal from Carbon (formerly Marsh), for my 981 Spyder.
They have removed track cover, plus reduced pay outs for certain claims over the old policy.
But I guess a reasonable quote.

Anyone got a good quote which includes track cover ??

cheers

That is a seriously pared down price Brian...well done
I personally wouldn't worry too much about the big excess on theft or serious damage (hopefully a never happen/once in a driving career event).
What is the windscreen excess?
I've just paid about £325 to Nationwide/Liverpool Victoria (£600 excess, £150 windscreen excess, fully comp Euro cover). They paid out on a broken windscreen last year (following a 911 GTS into Woodstock, thank you) and (long story) I got my OPC to do it rather than LV's Autoglass. Generally they handled that issue well

They declined to quote me. I was informed this was because they do not insure most(?) city post codes.
