981 Luggage

I am the proud owner of a 981 Boxster Spyder. Back in June we took it over to the northern coast of Spain to enjoy driving in the Picos, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia. Before going, we did look at what 'fitted' luggage was availble and were shocked at how much it would cost, so we ended up using a cabin baggage 'approved size' suitcase and a large roller soft bag in the front boot of our Spyder. They worked well, other than the fact that the soft bag, when full with SWMBO's clothes, was bulky and heavy when loading and unloading the car at hotels.

As keen motorbikers, we have soft bags that fit into the panniers and topbox of our bike - taking the bags out of the panniers into the hotel is a darned sight easier that lugging the heavy pannier boxes from bike to hotel.

Anyway, I contacted the outfit that produced our pannier bags and asked them if they would be prepared to make up some bags to my dimensions. They agreed that they could make up some bags and the following photos show what I have now got. I had 4 bags made up (all the same size) which fill the front boot of the 981 Boxster Spyder and, I assume, the standard 981 Boxster & Cayman. (I am not sure what size the front boot on the older 987 Boxster/Cayman is, so cannot make any claims about that). I did not bother with getting bags that would fit the rear boot.

Each bag is 450mm x 325mm x 275mm (L x W x H), and have a zip that runs around three sides of the top, carry handles, a separate shoulder strap, and a zipped side pocket. The four bags fill the front boot, as you can see from the photos.

The manufacturer is happy to produce more bags, if there is any interest and will be asking £110 + delivery costs for the four bags (£27.50 each). if interested than you can contact the following email address info@greatbikersgear.com and check out their webpage http://greatbikersgear.com to get an idea of quality etc etc. or contact me if you want futher info on what I have.

- I will be upfront here and say that that price is a hike up on what they did my bags for. perhaps they did some internet research and saw what the competition was charging!

I have no financial interest in http://greatbikersgear.com , but felt that other Boxster owners may welcome a cheaper source of luggage.

We found that for our 981S that one medium size and 2 cabin size suitcases from House of Fraser fit perfectly (provided that they are only filled level and not wildly overstuffed) and they come complete with wheels so as to make pulling them very easy.

Again a fraction of the bespoke custom cases that you see advertised.

Thank you for the info Paul.

Do you think you could post some larger phots of various sides/top/bottom. What is the material and are they lined?

Thanks for the info Paul. They look just the job. I hope you are both well. We were parked next to you on the first day at the Oulton Park Gold Cup in August.

Regards,

Gary

Peter

Not sure what the material is: it is a typical bag/case-type nylon. Heavy duty zips and edges have piping along all edges. Zipped side pocket for stuff like maps, Passports, documents etc. Not lined. Two strong carry handles, plus an adjustable shoulder strap, so should be easy to load/unload and carry to and from a hotel.

Sorry about the original photos. I kept them small as I was unsure what size limit the site has. A larger format pic is attached.

Send me a Private Message with your email address if you need 'bigger' pics.

Looks very good and fair value
linda and I choose the old school method!!
we bought beautiful and very reasonable leather bags from ventimglia market near Monaco over a few years and they fit nicely in the 981 as they did in the 987 and 993
two big in front boot and two smaller in rear boot
all Mrs P.s needs for 4 weeks of European touring??
