981 passenger door not unlocking by remote

I thought I had started a thread on this subject before to which no one replied but I can't find it so here goes again.

Quite a few months ago this issue started whereby when unlocking the car, the passenger door remained lock.
The window glass drops fractionally when the external handle is pulled but the door remains locked.

Now for the life of me I cannot remember before this problem started whether I locked the car with 1 or 2 presses on the remote, or unlocked the car with 1 or 2 presses.
But it didn't seem to matter as the passenger door always unlocked when pulling the handle.

Now the passnger door stays locked, most of the time. Sometimes it opens but I don't know what I do differently for it to open compared to when it doesn't.

Connected my OBD box just now, no faults to speak of.

So, having played with the remote with varying amount of presses, this is what is happening.

I lock with one press, both doors are locked.
I unlock with one press, drivers doors opens but passennger door remains locked.
(and yes I have the dash settings set to unlock both doors)

I lock with two presses (this according to quick reference guide swithches off the interior surveillance system & inclination sensor, alarm is activated, doors are locked. Doors can be opened from the inside which activates alarm).
So I lock with 2 presses, unlock with 1 press - passenger door remains locked.
So I lock with 2 presses, unlock with 2 presses - passenger door opens.

I am confused.
Anyone else had this problem or knows how to fix it?

Have tried with both remotes with new batteries, no difference.

My suggestion would be to find someone (a local indie perhaps) who has a PIWIS as opposed to a broad spectrum OBD. It sounds like there is a programming issue which could be reset with a Porsche specific diagnostic system.

Hey There

As you rightly mention, you need to enable open both doors in the settings via the column stick. Maybe try toggling this between drivers door only and back to both doors?

i have mine set to drivers door only and like you say, I have to press open twice for the passenger door to unlock.

when set to both doors then you’re right, you should only have to press open once. At least when you press it twice then it works so the solenoid is working fine. Compute has got a bit confused - if toggling between settings does not work maybe disconnect the battery for a few minutes?

I have a iCarSoft obd reader which is much better than a bog standard universal code reader but take your point about taking it a specialist with PIWIS.

Have tried toggling back & forth on the door unlocking menu but to no avail.

Might try disconnecting the battery, but if I do does disconnecting the battery affect any of the other system short term?

Did find a thread elsewhere on the net where a 986 owner had a similar problem and traced the fault to a corroded cable connection in the door post.

I have changed my battery a 3 times (due to faulty cells went down to 10v) and all systems including PCM and radio settings are all fine after a long disconnect.
