hi all ,i have not posted for ages,so last week my 981 pcm sceen has a fault on it ,sceen went black ,but unit is still working ie touch screen, and dash display is still working, all buttons on unit work ,i went on to net and found out a sirus update in may in america has broken a lot of nav units is this linked to my black sceen problem? looking either to replace like for like or put a aftermarket unit in ,car has bose, car is 8 years old last month ,rung my local opc they give me a quote of a brand new unit and fitting and new maps of 3k but said they will do it for just over 2k if they can have old unit from car this was with pcgb discount, has anyones else had a pcm gone bad ,looked at aftermarket units a alpine double din for about 600 a kenwood for about 650 and a pioneer for about 600, on top of this it is going to cost about 550 for adaptor for car and leads and fibre optic interface for bose,so you are looking at about 1100-1200 for bits ,i can do install myself.only thing with this i will lose map display in dash board, and phone also parking sensors on pcm display and car will not be standard any more ,as 981 values are holding well will this effect value of car ,car is a 2013 981 with 16k miles on it,car is going to opc next month for 8 year service, do i bite the bullet and just have porsche to put new unit in car or go aftermarket, looked at having unit repaired and they said about 1 k ie cartronics.(unit is still 8 years old)here is a link to the alpine one i was looking at https://www.alpine.co.uk/...ts/head-units/ilx-702d
many thanks

Changed the head unit in my 987 but a) it was much much older and b) didn't have any dash output.

Personally I'd look for a specialist to repair yours. Consider adding Apple CarPlay compatibility if not already. NM Automotive are pioneering kits for older (997 gen 2) cars

I think you'll devalue the car with an aftermarket head unit. Personal opinion but it'd put me off buying

update on replacement pcm, looked at getting unit repaired about £1250 +vat ,main screen board needs replacing, looking at it if i get this repaired all other bits inside unit are still 8 years old ie hard drive and other boards,i have decided to have porsche to fit a new pcm unit, bit more expensive but worth it ,needed to give dealer 2 weeks notice as a new pcm unit has to come from germany, car is going in to opc next month for 8 year service too, will also have latest maps put on too
many thanks
Richard
