Some PDK features...

Pull both paddles quickly and neutral is selected, can be done at rest or moving. With foot on brake if stationary, pull left paddle and it selects next lower gear, pull right paddle and it selects next gear up. Saves sitting in stationary traffic with hot disks clamped by hot pads. If you select neutral this way whilst in first, you need to pull on right paddle as there is no gear below first! On the move, just pull on either paddle to select next gear.

Also there is a mini launch control - foot on brake, increase revs to c1.2k quickly release brake and off you go - no need for Sport + A bit like loading the torque converter in old autos.

Sort of, but you would already be in neutral (having pulled both paddles simultaneously whilst in first) so as there is no lower gear you would remain in neutral listening to all the car horns blaring behind until you realise pulling the right paddle will get you into second and forward movement.
 
I'm still confused. I understand that when you stop pulling both puts it in neutral (it doesn't on 997, btw for those who want to know) but why does then pulling on the right paddle put it in second and not first? With the stop/start thingy isn't this a bit unnecessary anyway? (Unless you are in sport or have disabled it, I suppose)
 
Alan, Why does it go to 2nd? The logic is clear because the last gear was 1st, and Porsche decided that was how it would work. I always turn the stop/start off as it operates when the brake pedal is depressed and thus clamps hot discs/pads, but of course on slopes light braking is required. Ralph
 
I don't see that logic as being logical at all! If you have stopped, selected neutral (for whatever reason) and then want to pull away again I would have thought that engaging first gear would be the logical step! So if you pull it twice quickly from neutral does it engage third? How do you select first from neutral? For any extended stop I put in in "P" and not "N" anyway, so you don't have to worry about rolling forward or back, if keeping the foot off the (hot) brakes is an issue (which they probably wouldn't be with stop/start driving in traffic). Still struggling to see any benefit here![:D]
 
Alan, When I use the car in a couple of weeks I can try to explore every up and down combination but as I have used it that is the way it works. See also Rob's post on the 997 section.
