981 Preview at Silverstone

I've just returned from Porsche Silverstone after a great day out, including experiencing the new Boxster 981.

My group began with a slalom competition in the current Spyder, followed by a reaction test in the drivers' fitness centre and then an off-road ride in the Cayenne. Finally we all had a fast ride on the Porsche track in a 981 with one of Porsche's drivers, which proved to be a wonderful demonstration of what the new Boxster can do in the hands of a professional. The day was filmed, both in and out of the cars, and an edited version will shortly appear on the Porsche website. I have little doubt that the looks on our faces will say it all!

The first four 981s in the UK were on duty, in black, white, red and yellow. I'm not a big fan of yellow cars but the 981 shade looks good, much better than on other models. The ride seems smoother than in a 987, but maybe this was due to the drivers! The exterior is stunning, although I'm not sure I like the interior as its overbearing centre console makes it rather claustrophobic. But the performance of the demonstration cars, all Boxster S PDKs, was exactly what we were all expecting - faaantastic!!

Add a tasty breakfast, gourmet lunch and almost wall-to-wall sunshine and you have an unforgettable experience. Be nice to your OPC - perhaps they will organise a visit for you. [;)]

You will find a dozen of my photos here.
