981 Sports Exhaust

Hi All,

My first post on the PCGB forum so go easy on me!

I have a 981 S PDK and sadly it was never factory spec'd from new with switchable sports exhaust. I've noted that Porsche offer this as a retrofit within their techequipment options. My question was basically what are the thoughts on doing this and has anyone else done it (would you recommend it)?
  • Can you get the PCGB discount on the parts from a local dealer?
  • Does the button on the centre console get placed in the location of the factory fit item, or it it placed beneath the stop/start/eco button?
  • Would it cause any Porsche Warranty issues (my guess is no) and would it affect future sell on (i.e. people wouldn't like that it wasn't factory fit)?
  • Cost, I have read that some dealers vary their prices/offers, I'm based in region R25 (Kent), any insight/guidance as to who is the cheapest?

And... my second question what is the difference between the 981 Cayman S and Boxster S power outputs? Is it just engine mapping?

Thanks for your help in advance.

James

Hi

I have done this on my 981 6 speed / man

Bit of a basic job, but you probably need a garage to do it in - the kit cost me about £1170 from memory.

Swapping the exhaust was simple, however you have to run a wire from below the passenger seat to the rear boot space going through the engine compartmen - where you also have to install a vacum switch.

The entire centre console switch pack is replaced ( this comes with the kit) - and when your finished you have to get your PC to program the system - so that it recognises the switch...

This is was the only bit that caused me angst - I took it to Leicester PC who's computer couldn't see the switch??

After taking the whole thing apart and finding that I had installed it correctly grrr I took it to Dove House Motors and they turned it on immediately - (apparently unless the exhaust is factory fitted the system will only recognise it as an after market option?)

Have to say fitting the Exhaust has made my Boxster even more fun - I'd say go for it!!

Hope the above helps

My car is booked into my local Porsche centre to have one fitted next month. The car was supplied by Reading who wanted £2300 to supply and fit but I am getting the job done locally for considerably less.

Info from Nigel above is interesting and possibly explains why the garage want the car for 2 days.

I had this fitted to my 981 S, by Edinburgh OPC it was £1850 supplied and fitted although my car did have the sports tailpipes already. It has finished off the car in my eyes (and ears).Well the worth the cost.

I had this done before I picked mine up and the button gets put in the right place. I wouldn't say it's a DIY job as the switch needs programming in.

Discount is valid but as others have said you can get a similair amount if you haggle anyway.

Had mine retrofitted at RPM Technic - definitely not a DIY or local Garage job, as the car needs to be reprogrammed with IPAS codes from Porsche. Total labour to fit all parts was around 6 hours. Worth every penny!
