Evening All,

Not been on the forum for a while since I sold my 987.2 Boxster back in 2021. Looking to get back into the fold... this time with a much higher budget!

I've seen a 2016 981 Spyder with 17,000 miles on AutoTrader for sale at Britannia Cars and I was wondering if any one on here knows the car or if any of the previous owners are on here.... insurance check brings up the number plate as CX65EAP.

The Advert is very vague, gives a lot about the Specification... but not much about Service History just says "Porsche service history". And an MoT Check shows it passed first MoT on 18/01/2019 with 10954 Miles and then has no MoT history since... that 6K miles could have been done in that year and then it could have sat in a collection or something.

I would of course get a Pre-Purchase Inspection before I left got of that kind of money (£60k).... but given the sort of car it is, I thought it might be a known car in the community.

Any way hoping to re-join as a member and be more pro-active on here soon!

Cheers
Mike

Mike - on the face of it that seems like a reasonably priced example given the time of year. A few questions I would be asking:-

Is it a UK car? - there are a few floating about from Cyprus
What exactly is the service history and who is this with? As well as the standard items when were the plugs, air filters and belt last changed? - the car should have had a couple of big services by now at 4 and 8 years particularly What is the age of the tyres - a set of proper tyres is £1200 or so and they do go hard with age so mileage and tread depth is a bit irrelevant.
Try and get a proper list of the options - no Navigation screens shown so does it really have PCM? Does it have climate control rather than just air con? Does it have the reversing camera - really useful if you have to put the car in a garage. They have not listed things like the carbon interior so it suggests they not looked up the vin - you can do that on boxa.net for a small contribution.
What is the warranty mentioned? The Porsche extended warranty is good value but to qualify the car must have a complete up to date service at and OPC and pass a 111 check. Having said that these are pretty solid cars like all 981s.
Check under the car to see what the hardware looks like - if it's been kept outside you will see! Check the operation of the PSE by manually operating the valves on both sides - if they are stuck or broken its an expensive thing to fix properly.
Check under the flaps of the roof for tears - if the boot has been opened regularly without releasing the header rail it will tear.
Check the buckets suit you - I found them ideal but they divide opinions.

These are good cars but need maintaining not just servicing - 3 owners is ok for the age provided they have not skimped on costs.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Wahoo I finally seem to be able to reply to this post…this forum seems very buggy since I was last a member!

Thanks SpyderDavid for the information above it has been very informative and helped me a lot in my decision making.

I’ve decided to give this particular car a miss, I couldn’t get the information I wanted about the Service History so it didn’t sit right with me.

I have now reserved at car at Maundrell Cars near Oxford it’s another white car with about 33k miles so about double the one above. But it has a full OPC history, as well good full MoT History.

Has the heated carbon buckets, BOSE, PCM/withNav, Reversing Camera, Sports Chrono, Air Con (not climate), 64L Fuel Tank.

They sent me the Spec List and also a brief summary of when things like the discs & pads were last done and the spark plugs.

Overall feel in a much more comfortable position… it has had the PSE replaced with a Fabspeed Exhaust which might upset some purists, but if it sounds as good as the YouTube videos I’ve watched them I’m going to love it!

🤞🏻For Friday that cars a gooden 👍🏻

Glad you’ve found a car you are happy with - imo it’s better to have a car with a few more miles that you know has been maintained and in general the 981 seems a pretty reliable platform. I concur regarding the forum - seems to require multiple logons to get the rights required to reply. Surprising that the forum seems not to have advanced since I was last a member given what is provided for free on many other sites - probably contributes to the lack of use some are commenting on?

100% Agree with the miles my old 987.2 had about 46k miles when I bought it and sold about 3 years later with over 62k miles. Definitely prefer a car that’s been driven, this one will probably be put away during the harsh winter period but it’ll definitely get driven a lot throughout the summer period!

Yeah the forum doesn’t seem to keep you logged in even if you’ve logged into another part of the site…I can only assume people have started to use Facebook groups etc more, but I’ve always found a forum a good source of information and in the past this one has been particularly helpful 👍🏻

Thanks Buddy, I’ll be at Club Night on Wednesday… I loved the 2 hour Drive back from Wantage to my mums 👌🏻
