981 Starting Problem

An interesting experience...

Travelling up from Devon to Center Gravity I stopped at Tamworth Services for breakfast and on return to the car it would not start. Key in and Cayman script comes up on the dash but nothing else. Turn key for ignition - nothing. Call Porsche Assistance and Porsche specialist arrives in 40 minutes.
Battery voltage OK, disconnect battery to allow systems to reset, nothing. Thought to be immobiliser problem.
Transporter arranged to take car back to Devon, hire car ordered so I can continue to Silverstone for the weekend.
I then call Jens Ehresmann in Germany who suggests I check that all fuses are correctly seated, as he has found they can become loose. I find a fuse has become dislodged and is sitting clear of the board, I push it in and car starts normally. Jens reports that this often happens with their race cars and that they now put safe padding inside the fuse cover to ensure fuses do not become dislodged.
I cancel transporter and hire car and am sitting watching Chris check my car's geometry.

I hope this might help someone on a rainy night.....probably also a common potential issue on 991 vehicles.

Good call Ralph. I know that you're keen on your track days - maybe the race car experience is the connection.

Glad to hear that it all turned out alriight in the end. Enjoy your Silverstone weekend.

Jeff
