There seems to be some part of the aircon/ventilation system behind the passenger airbag area of the dashboard. I'd always noticed a grumbling noise from this area when the car's ignition was on, and found it stopped if the aircon was switched off - hence the conclusion above. Now however I can now hear it when driving along - so either I have recently become tuned into the noise or it has got louder. It also means that whatever it is, is constantly making adjustments, since I think I am hearing the movement of some sort of directing vanes (?).

Does anybody know whether this is "normal"?
Do they all make this noise, and should it be adjusting that often?

Thanks

Andrew

Does the aircon still work as it should? If not you might have lost thegas and the noise you can here is air gurgling in thesystem. This happened to mine and the aircon specialist found one of my condensors was leaking. New condensors recharge with gas and it was as right as rain

Cary,

Thanks for response. I believe the aircon works fine - I haven't checked if it is cooling recently though, but will do so.

What happens apparantly is that wet leaves etc. enter the air intakes at the front and collect at the back which causes corrosion on the condensors. The air con guy advised looking in with a torch to see if any have collected and if so loosening them with a stick then vaccuming them out.
