986 boot won't open

Found this article that may give you an idea or two. Emergency release is possible but seems to need a fair amount of effort. Hope that it goes OK. Enjoy Nice http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_5/Worst_Case_Scenario.html

More photos in this thread, right hand wheel arch liner out and the cable is behind the light unit. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/8496-dead-battery-closed-hood/

The cable sits below the left hand rear light unit you should be able to fish it out: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/43532-996-engine-cover-release-wire/ (This photo is 996 but the principle is the same)

Thanks y'all. Just for clarity it is the rear boot lid I can't open and it isn't because of a flat battery. I have used the fuse box jump method in the past but that doesn't apply in this case. I need to access the emergency release cable which, I believe is reached from one or other rear wheel arch. Mine is a RH drive car. Nick, is it definitely right (driver's) side? Many thanks again. Paul

986 boot won't open and I'm in Nice (drove down from Le Mans).
I can hear the solenoid working but boot doesn't open. Much luggage to get back to blighty so need to open boot. Can anyone briefly describe how to access the emergency cable to release the catch please?

Forever in you debt!

Paul

You're a gent. Thanks again. I'll attempt it and report result. I confess I'm a little apprehensive at stripping out body panels with only the Porsche standard tool kit, a spoon and a leatherman! Oh well nothing ventured....

Just thought I should put this one to bed. There is, indeed, an emergency cable fed out of the boot to a point behind the passenger side wheel arch. I found mine but, because it had become snagged somewhere, I couldn't get sufficient purchase on it to open the boot lid!

Once safely back on my drive, I removed the bumper and exposed the offending, snagged cable and succeeded To open the lid. Be warned though. If the small actuating cable has snapped - to replace it involves removing the spoiler, boot carpets, all of the hydraulic mechanism for the spoiler and the solenoid. Just to add insult to injury Porsche will only sell the 6" cable as part of an assembly which includes the solenoid at about £100! Oh well all done now and I have re-run the emergency release cable through some pipe to make sure it doesn't snag next time.....
