986 hardtop

If I buy a hardtop off ebay what else do I need?

I fully realise I won't have a heated rear window unless I give it power. I just don't want anything to fall off when I go around a corner.

Ta. :)

If your car hasn't already got one, you'll need the mounting kit for the rear location. They are about 50 quid and easy to fit on a 986

Hold on - do you not have a heated rear window/heated mirrors button?
My 986 had the button from new, even though I had the plastic windowed convertible roof and no hardtop.
When I had a replacement roof with glass rear window then the demisiting elements were just plugged into the exisitng connector and work off the switch that has been there all along.

no john, they don't-unless you have had a hardtop from new they wont have the fixings as standard-irritating I know -but when I bought my hardtop 3 yrs ago when I bought my car I had to get opc to install fixings which cost around £50 plus labour-so all in all around £100[]

What does the 'hardtop cover handle' do?

At the bottom.

Isn't it to neaten up the interior when you have the hard top on ? Clipping over the latch (like the soft top release latch).
I haven't a hard top so can't be sure - but it looks like that would be the case.

I take it I have the lock nut/bolts already?

No, they are not the fixing bolts for the hardtop.

The fixing kit is a bit awkward to fit, took me about 2 hours of fiddling & the use of a hex key with a 'wobbler' type end as access is limited. Have a look on Boxa.net - lots of diagrams & advice about fitting on there.
