986 headlight bulb replacement

hi everyone, I'm a newbie and I need some advice from fellow Boxster owners, the headlights on my car are not the best for night driving. Has anyone got any suggestions for a good replacement bulb that will improve the driving at night.

I've tried a number of options with little success sadly.

I fitted HID Zenons, imported form America, but one didn't always light first time (I had to turn the lights on and off and on again several times, sometimes) and strictly they shouldn't pass an MOT (no headlight washers, no self levelling)

I've now got Philips Daybreaker bulbs, but the lights are still pretty rubbish. My son has a 987 with Litronic and they are night and day better than halogens

I suspect the only option is Litronic retrofit but far too expensive for me

Philips Xtreme Vision PLUS 130% Extra Light - H7 Twin Pack. I fitted 4 of these - 2 per headlamp - they seem better than the standard bulb. Unless you go HID or Litronic then it is a compromise. I have run illegal lighting in the past - rally spec - but you require wiring loom and uprated relays and they are still prone to blow out.
