986 Stainless exhaust?

Please share your experience of after market stainless exhaust systems. With so many options available its a real minefield. On one hand the stock item doesn't breath very well or sound very Exciting. On the other are reports of nasty resonant drones from some SS replacements.
All brands make great claims about greater HP and/or sportier sound.
Finally the prices advertised for replacement systems vary from a few hundred (EBay) to thousands for recognised tuning firms.
What should one spend?

Thanks y'all. See ya at Silverstone next weekend.

Paul

Just reading the related threads and, obviously, sports exhausts are well trodden ground! I would still be interested to hear people's experience of Matched/tuned manifolds and, in particular, how they effect the oxygen sensors and the engine management.
many thanks

Hi Paul. Mine has a Jan Speed stainless on her. IO have to say i think it sounds great. Not over the top but enough to say I am here.
It was on when I bought the car so I did not have to do any research. I would recommend the system though. Have fun

Hi Paul. Just looked at the invoice (came with the car) it shows

It is a JanSpeed invoice. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much Phil.
Im not sure, from their web site, if Janspeed still make a system for 986 but I'll look into it.
Best wishes.

Paul,

I can't speak from experience on this but I seem to recall that Milltek has a good reputation, and I believe that they offer two options, one resonated (quieter) and the other non-resonated (louder).

An alternative would be to have a look at Carnewal who have very positive reviews on various forums. They modify the internals of your existing exhaust on exchange, so it's reasonably cost-effective at 390 Euros plus shipping, but I think that you can purchase a modified system outright. .
