986 window / interior lights not going out

Hi everyone
Can anyone help with my 2001 986 3.2S?
The passenger door window won't return to the fully closed position when you close the door also the interior lights won't go off either.
its as if the car thinks the door isn't shut but when you lock the car with button on key ring the lights go out and window shuts properly.
has this happened to anyone else and how to fix.
many thanks.

Hi,

I had a similar but the opposite problem on my 1997 986, in that the window wouldn't stay dropped when the door was open and the interior light didn't come on. There's a microswitch in the door lock mechanism/unit itself (inside the door) that senses when the door is opened/closed and controls the window drop/interior light accordingly.

Unfortunately i had to replace the entire door look mechanism as the microswitch is not available separately. Its not a difficult job if you're doing it yourself; basically remove the door card and then swap-out the lock unit.

Hope that helps.

Hi

Sometimes if the convertible roof is not closed properly, or if the switch on it is a bit dodgy this can prevent the windows from fully closing (the switch is on the locking handle assembly).
Also it may be worth checking that the micro-switches in the door handle/ locking mechanism work correctly as they can also prevent the window operating properly.

Thanks

just to let anyone interested know changing the door lock mechanism indeed cured the fault.
