987.1 - Front Bumper Mesh options

Hello All,

Is there any advice, from experience, from fellow Boxster owners on front bumper mesh options for the side intakes please? I'm after an option that is designed to sit behind the louvers and inside the bumper. My bumper is black and I'm after a silver mesh.

I've looked at Zun/Sport and RennLine, who don't seem to offer what I'm after.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks very much.

Peter

Hi Peter-something to remember is that any mesh blocks airflow. If you look at a piece of mesh (of whatever gauge) you will see that you are going to block out 10-20%-so not negligible. If Porsche thought this was a good idea they could fit them at the factory for next to nothing. Against that a cynic would -might-say they intend to support the dealership network with expensive repairs (and lots of irate customers). And then you take a view.

If you insert a mesh you certainly block airflow-think (as an extreme example) leaving your front door open or just the letter box (even with a strong wind blowing against your house).
I talked to my OPC about this when I thought I had a damaged ac condenser (turned out to be ok). If you are doing a lot of track work where you are tailgating as part of the fun then there is probably a higher risk of damage and maybe the grills make sense. If you are only worried about leaves I would personally pick debris out every time you do a proper wash and take the bumper off to clear dreck from behind the ac condensers on the radiators every few years.
All that said if you fit the grills I don't suppose you will will break the car!
In terms of road driving precautions I would suggest backing well off when you are behind a high performance bike with sticky tyres. The same goes for high performance cars-my scare that led me to the OPC was debris thrown up by a 911 GTS. (Or you could get some fine grade mesh for your windscreen too--the GTS broke mine!)

Think I've mentioned this before but is it not irresponsible for Porsche to keep churning out cars with the same old problems of corroding/ damaged radiators and air con condensers. Surely they must be aware of this and could fit a set of grilles fairly cheaply on the production line. Why don't the club make it known to Porsche that we are all fed up of this expensive problem??
Never ever had this problem with any other car I have owned in the last 45 yrs. Its not really good enough is it , as much as we love our Porsches!!!

Not a Boxster, but same idea/issues. My latest DIY grilles fitted on 997 C4 GTS. I've been through the Zunsport route (996) and DIY stainless mesh (997.1 C4S) and ended up with these ... More info here http://www.barlow.org.uk/diy-grilles.html hope this helps. Please no comments about the beech leaf behind the mesh - there's always one that gets through! [:)] Oh, and no difference observed at all in operating temp with this grille or any of those previously fitted.
