my front radiator fans are a bit sticky and reluctant to spin up, the near side one being the worst and it sometimes squeaks. Does anyone know if it’s possible to lubricate or grease them without removing the bumper and radiators? If tried spraying WD 40 with limited improvement.
Thanks.

They are sure to be sealed against all things, so spraying them will have a very limited effect and at best temporary.
Getting the bumper off is not too bad if you are handy with tools, nothing special needed.
The fans are then there to inspect but guess you will need to replace them.
Good luck with it,
Graham.

Thanks for your help. I may have a go at removing the bumper later this year and see if I can really get them cleaned up and working perfectly.

Paul,

I'm sure that the job would be simpler if you removed the front bumper and also you'd be able to clean out the accumulated muck in the a/c condensers and the coolant radiators.

Here's a descriptive post that you may find useful if you want to try removing the fans through the wheel arches:

Also, although I think this article is for a 986 it might be a useful guide for your 987:

Thanks Motorhead, it looks like taking the bumper off is the best bet. I suspect the radiators and condensors would benefit from an inspection and possibly a clean if they are anything like the red car in the link. There is always so much to do on an old car!
I believe the 986 is a slightly different design with the resistors etc.
Thanks again, Paul
